ez red ratchets

hey guy's just wondering if anyone has used any of the new ez red ratchets they have come out with. i have had some real good luck with some of there stuff in the past. i use a 24" quick release 1/2" drive comfort grip ratchet at work and man that thing is a quality piece considering i paid 30 bucks for it (got it as trade in from my so man). i also used the extendable ratchets in 1/4" 3/8ths and 1/2" they all held up well and i put them through the paces. now i know that everyone on here likes a qualty tool at a decent price so i figured i'd point you guy's to there new ratchets. and if anyone already has one of these please comment as i am very interested in pick up a few of them. one last thing i know these are pretty cheep, they probably never be "truck brand" level but some of my favorite tools and most used tools are things that didn't come off a tool truck. also they have repair kits available so i think that you may be able to get some longevity out of these ratchets.

My indy tool rep suggested skipping there stuff.
Apparently if needed, warranty is a pain with them. They supposedly build in batches, making long wait times on warranties.
But i can't see any issues with there ratchets, there built good from what i've see by coworkers.

Can't say anything in general about EZred, some stuff seems great, others clearly rebranded same as all the other Taiwan tools. Part of the problem is that they want to be a truck brand, so they put sky high prices on a lot of items to get Truck tool dealers to carry them, but then as mentioned warranty is spotty, as in now they have it, now its not in the line anymore.

I've got some EZred I like, but now my practice is to check for other brands with the same thing.

Well, I guess we now know who makes the extendable ratchets at Harbor Freight. The rachet heads and slip-collar look identical.

Looks like standard Taiwan fare, I am betting some HF/Kobalt internals (like rebuild kits) will swap right in there. Probably decent quality.

Do you really need 17" with a 3/8" drive? HF has a nice 14".

Need. No but want yes. I have plenty of 3/8th ratchets from 8 to 14 inches but why not a 17 incher. .. If it has the same internals as the hf and kobalt with it likely does then we can take a sold guess they will be fairly study ratchets.

I have two EZ Red long flex ratchets, 3/8 and 1/4. The internals are identical to the HF composite rats. What's nice about the EZ Reds is the extra length. The 1/4 is almost 12". For the money, they're good.

So he could have a 72T kobalt 18inch ratchet. Those extra long kobalt ratchets (only the extra long ones) come with a 36T mechanism that is completely interchangeable with the 72T mechanisms.

Their locking flexhead ratchets are nice. I got the extra long locking flex heads and I snapped the 3/8 drive. Doing an alignment and couldn't fit 1/2drive. The gear and drive square grenades but I was abusing it. Work fine up until then. Still haven't warrantied it yet because I decided to buy snap on. http://www.tooltopia.com/e-z-red-mr1438fl.aspx. Lower tooth count ratchets are typically stronger. Its been proven that the gears take alot more torque to break.

I don't beat to death smaller ratchets, but seems to me a more typical situation isn't sudden failure from an abusive load, its more like many times not having the pawl fully engaged and it slips on a tooth rounding it slightly until it won't hold anymore. Replace the guts and start over.

I have there 3/4 extendable ratchet, payed $92 shipped for it which I feel is more than fair considering the size. Have had no issues with it thus far!

I bought this set about a year ago, I waited until these were discontinued so I could score a better price.

I read a lot of reviews and opted to still jump in for the 3pk.

Hindsight, I wouldn't do it.

The 1/2" long handle ratchet, wouldn't keep up with turning over a supercharger in the same method my Craftsman could.

When warranting the ratchet with EzRed it took four months. Yes, I had to wait for their next batch from their "supplier". I paid for shipping both ways and the finish in the replacement was horrible.

During the 4 month timetable, I bought a the pack of Titan ratchets via Amazon and they were excellent!

The Titan set was a little heavier in the hand, but the finish is exceptional and robust performance with a racing team.

I've used the Titan ever since in the racing trailer and left the EzRed at the house.

Proceed with caution and listen to those who have had to learn harder lessons.

Titans were a fraction of the price of EzReds and so much better in performance thus far. For all I know, they're made in the same factory.

I have a 3/4 I use at least a couple times a week at work in a kenworth truck shop and mines been working for about a year and half just fine, it goes from 2 feet to about 3 and a half. About half the guys in the shop (50 techs) have them and ive seen quite a few break them but there decent for what they are, there convenient for a big ratchet but I wouldn't bother with any of the smaller ones. My snap on guys selling the 3/4 ones and warranting them for us.
