Since it pissed rain today I was able to have some shop time. First was to finish welding any parts I missed. Next I mag drilled the bolt holes for the trip edge mounts, and double checked that the plow bolts don't interfere with the trip mechanism. Next thing to do is paint it yellow.

Paint it all up today, 2 coats of CAT yellow.

Very nice work, solid design and execution.

I see you have the right clamp for lifting plate steel, but one thing I've found that is more convenient is to just add a couple holes. I usually have them burned out when I have the profile cut out.

Don't forget to wax the blade before you use it! Seriously, it helps reduce the amount of snow that sticks.

Take this FWIW - I've always lived in the southeastern US and can identify snow 9 out 10 times. I know when it snows, my presence is required at the grocery store.
I don't much about plowing snow, but I'm wondering about your selection of an F150 as a plow truck. I thought you needed something both heavier and heavier duty to be an effective plow truck - minimum of a 3/4 ton truck to reduce your chances of overworking your transmission and front suspension.
Can you educate me on that?

It's going on a skid steer not a truck.

The other day I applied truck bed liner on the part were I would step out of the machine, so I don't end up slipping on my ***. Next was to reassemble and test everything like the lateral float & trip mechanism. While I was assembling everything my dad was doing leaf cleanup and he blew all the leafs onto the road so I did a test by pushing the leafs.

So the last thing to fabricate on this build was to make the side shoes. The wearing part is 1/2"x3" 4140 and will be welded to 1/4" flat bar that has slots cut into it to make it adjustable. I was trying to bend the flat bar in my press brake but the 4140 bent a little and the brake bent a lot. So I had to cut the 4140 and weld it to the shape.


A little insight to one of my future builds is a 50 ton press with a 3' press brake.

Well its now 100% done, here are the last few posts of the build...

Last thing to fabricate was the wear shoes, I started to machine the adjustment slots and and did a test fit and all the slots didn't line up with the holes. So I scraped that piece and redid them, second time the slots were dead on. Welded the adjustment plate to the wear bars and added a few gussets, then gave it a lick of paint.

Bolted up the wear shoes with 9/16" Gr.8 bolts, and now its completed. Hope you guys enjoyed the build of the blade. My machine is going to the site in 8 days for the start of my contract. Ill try and film some videos of it in action when the snow fly's

And we just found out who's responsible for no snow in Ontario this coming winter.

Build came out great!! I was thinking about the gussets for the side plates. Do you think they're gonna be strong enough? I know the sides are 1/4" but you'd be surprised how much force they see. I ran into an issue last year when i added wings(1/8" thick steel) to my atv's plow. They arent straight like yours, they angle out, but i had issues when pushing heavy wet snow that the wings wanted to push out. I added reinforcing in some areas but in the end i welded a 1/4"x 1" flat bar from the plow blade to the wing, about half way up. This prevented any further pushing out of the wing. Your gusset looks very strong but i think a lot of stress may be put at the top of the side plates once you start really packing heavy snow in there and could start bending it outward. You may not have that problem because the sides arent angled out.

I seem to run out of traction with my LS 150 skid steer... The asphalt ends up freezing and turning into an ice ring after I make a couple of passes....

The biggest risk for bending the sides are if I hit a curb, but the gussets go down to the point of the sides which should help with bending. I can't use chains because I will destroy the pavement. But I do have several thousand pounds on the LS150.

I finally have had a weekend to do some more work to the pusher box. My 9 day old Lincoln decided to stop working, so I'm not a very happy person right now. Monday morning I'm going to return this ************* and buy something different.

We chain up the 85XT in the front just for a regular blade on a gravel driveway. Sure can turn into an ice rink even with good tires and 4x4 and probably 8500#.

When I took it back to the welding supply store they had a Lincoln rep stop buy that day and they exchanged my welder for a brand spanking new one. So far from the original issue the new one has been flawless

That is very good. I always thought Lincoln was pretty decent so I'm glad they made it right.

So I had my first plow last night with the pusher. we got 7" of snow but it was just below freezing so it was rather heavy to push. but the skid steer did a pretty good job pushing the snow. I only had a chance to take one picture so here is a action shout

So do you usually use a plow truck to clear the larger open areas & use the skid steer to get into the tighter areas? Or does the skid steer clear the whole lot?

I use the skidsteer for the whole lot. In the open area the skid steer is faster since i can plow in one direction and turn around and plow in the other direction, were a truck would have to back up the entire parking lot length.
