Nice !

Any experience with the quality of these?

I do not. They seem to pop up in my feed on Instagram.
Personally, I find them to be a bit pricey.
I've been using machinist angle blocks/challenge blocks, been looking for something smaller and lighter.

The 8" were $18 each and the 11" were $22 each.

Thank you for sharing the link.

I'm going to give them a shot, really cant beat that price, very reasonable.

I made my own out of a pair of cast iron table saw extensions I found free on Craigslist.

Nicely done. Funny because a few days ago I cut up a smaller table saw extension for same purpose. I was just going to keep the 90 degree corners and scrap the rest and call it good, but maybe I should tig braze some stuff together.

Did you do any post weld machining/filing, or did it all go together pretty straight?

If I'm going to weld stuff together I could just use steel. Guess splatter not sticking to CI as much is a good plus though.

Damn.... did he increase his prices? Seems like they used to more reasonable than that.

Fireball prices are the same as they were last December as I made note while looking at options.

I have the Genuine Metalworks versions and they work well and are nicely made.

I got mine today, I'm pretty impressed with the quality. Bends are spot on as is the angle. And 1/4" is a decent size to work with.
I'll use these as templates to make more. I'll start with some smaller ones since he did not make them smaller than 8". I could use some 6" and 4".
All in all I'm pleased with them.

Definitely could be worse and being a good guy helped. That’s the main reason I don’t have a set from fireball!

I am in agreement with you but in all fairness that isn’t a very fair comparison of products.

I would agree that it’s not a fair comparison between Fireball squares and laser cut and bent sheet metal squares.

I think his prices are pretty fair on the bent squares for what you’re getting. Probably a touch on the high side for anyone in the business but for a home shop guy they’re probably pretty nice.

That said, I just bought a set of Fireball squares at Fabtech and they are outstanding quality and pretty reasonable pricing for what you get. If you make money with welding, I would have a full set with no hesitation. I plan on buying a few more sets so we don’t have to share haha

I should have worded it differently.
For what I was using them for, they would not have been as beneficial to me as the formed ones, in turn was not worth the investment. I needed something I could wrap on the outer edges as well as inner with the limited space I had available. Plus they pack up nicely and store without taking up much space.
They are great tools and very versatile and I will consider investing in them in the future.

You could not find a use for these in your fab shop?

Why are they are not of "fab shop" worthy, only "home shop" worthy?

I’m not saying I couldn’t or wouldn’t use them, I was just pointing out that they are fairly light duty and probably not appropriate for industrial fab work. Formed sheet metal is more flexible, less durable and less versatile than their cast counterparts.

Let me put it this way, I have the ability to laser cut and form my own squares and I choose to purchase Fireball squares for my business.

I’m not trying to pick on home shops, but let’s face it, they typical welding in a home shop is fairly light duty and not as demanding as a full time fab shop.

It’s apples to oranges.

Who brought up using them for industrial work? I certainly didn't and I certainly wouldn't be using them setting steel. That's just ridiculous.
In an industrial environment neither would be on my truck or with anyone in my crew. At the shop yes, in the field, no.

They each serve a purpose in there own way and both can be just as versatile as the other.

Of course a home shop is light duty and isn't as demanding as a fab shop. What does that have to do with these squares? Actually, what does that have to do with anything in this thread?

Talk about apples to oranges

Dude - he was answering your questions. He is a fab shop and they're not industrial enough for him. That's it.

Again
"In an industrial environment neither would be on my truck or with anyone in my crew. At the shop yes, in the field, no."

I understand he owns a shop and have commented on his abilities in the past. He is a very talented individual. My point was that I would not be considering using either of these squares for industrial type work. Maybe misc, metals in the shop but setting steel/steel erection no.

I got a set from that guy op linked... it's pretty heavy IMO its 1/4 seems to be stainless (not 304)... not bad at all Everything is laser cut and bend, not a home shop manufacturing thing.

Some people have access to toys to make one, some don't, those that doesn't these are pretty good.
