Craigslist isn't that popular here in Australia. Ebay pretty much dominates with a few smaller versions like Gumtree.
I don't have a Facebook account but my wife loves it, a few months ago she introduced me to the local Facebook second hand page and free page.
Most geographical areas are or have set up one of these pages and just yesterday i scored a free heavy duty ex medical equipment trolley 2 minutes from my house and earlier in the day had someone turnup to buy an old compressor.
If you or someone you nknow is good with the Facebook world you should definitely check it out. It's the first place I put anything i need to sell these days as ebay fee's were beginning to piss me off..

I am not a Facebook user but I have learned as the OP wrote that there are some interesting buy/sell/trade groups on facebook. It's hard enough to look for things on Craigslist and Ebay without adding more sites into the mix

I belong to a couple groups on FaceBook. One is "Big Toys for Big Boys". Lots of cars guns, and quads for sale or trade.

For the OP, when you are on Facebook again, just ask the question if there are any swap/trade/sell groups out there. If there is, once you find the name of the group, you can ask for an invite. FaceBook isn't all about telling people how many times you took a **** today, there is some good groups out there. The problem is finding them.

I avoided Facebook for a LONG time.....I really wasn't interested in "reuniting" with old friends and girlfriends......there is a reason I no longer talk to most of these people. But, within the last few months, I set up an account with my side business as the user name (my name is NOwhere to be found) and have joined groups like "Auto Madness" "The Man Store barter/sales of CNY" and a few "Gently Used" type groups.

Turns out, Facebook does have a use other than finding out, as Kevin54 so eloquently pointed out, how many times your "friends" took a **** today.

So how do I find these groups? So far I am having no success. Facebook wants to hijack the search.

Just post on the main page that you are looking for some buy/sell groups. Someone is bound to respond. Maybe not right away, but within a day. And whatever you post on the main page, will also show up on your page.

Here are a couple to start you out https://www.facebook.com/BuySellTradeGroups

https://www.facebook.com/pages/All-buy-swap-sell-groups/195519793850125

Just remember.....what one person sees on Facebook, is not what everyone else sees' It all depends on friends and what they post as to what the main page looks like.

My wife follows a local facebook stuff for sale group like that. Here it has more traffic and better items than Craigslist does.

We have some great Facebook groups and then people are not as anonymous as with Craigslist etc. Some are closed groups so you have to ask to join and will be booted if you act up.

Lock down all your privacy settings and you won't be accessible to all the "other" stuff on there. Besides their is likely less drama on there than some of the queens create here.

I found the local group eventually. 3 posts in 6 months for diet pills and herbal remedies. I guess it is just not popular round here.

Same as when I moved. Local group here had some guy selling some Honda parts and e-cigarette parts, not much else. Last area I lived in I bought a 66 390 out of a Merc for $50 (needs some love but it's clean inside and out) and my friend bought a 78 F100 4x4 for $800 and drove it home. Tons of cars, tools and guns there too, so much stuff was posted it was hard to keep track of.

I've been staying off of FB for the last couple of weeks. Nothing interesting going on, just the usual nonsense videos, pictures of food or fancy beer, and unfounded political memes (from both sides). That got boring a while ago.
I get the occasional message from out of state (or country) friends, but they can call me if something is really important.
