Facom 501AMP Locking Plier vs Grip-On

I am seriously considering the purchase of a Facom 501AMP locking plier. For those who own it, how does it compare with a Grip-On? Pros and cons? Is it worth the difference in price? FYI, the only thing that I know is that the coo is France. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Proto sells the Facom pliers under their name (as with Grip-On) as well. I happened to notice them while browsing the Proto PDF catalog last night. I don't know if this is a recent development, but I had never heard of them (from either Proto or Facom) before. The part numbers are even the same, apart from Proto adding a "J". Here is a link to where they can be found on their site: Proto Multi-Position Lock Grip Pliers

Thanks for bringing the Proto counterparts to my attention. Unfortunately, I am not able to find the Proto J501AMP for sale at ebay, Amazon or Zoro.

Also interested if you find where to buy the Proto rebrands of this. Hopefully cheaper than the Facom ones.

I have a couple 500 series locking pliers, they are handy but expensive, they don't replace a few pairs of vise grips in terms of how much you can abuse them.
Also available from Beta and probably other tool brands

The new 500A series lockgrip pliers (made in France) are the best Facom makes. I can't say the same for the 580/582 and others that are coming out of China. The 501AMP replaces the previous T5.L series.

As to Facom pricing, I'm starting to see some decent price reductions in 2016. Hopefully as some point this year, I can get a better price on this series of pliers.

Special pricing on Facom/Proto 500A series Lockgrip pliers

I will be stocking the Proto versions of the Facom 500A series pliers from now on. I was able to get some special pricing from the folks at Proto on a 150pc stock order going in next week. Special pre-order pricing (additional 25% discount on 3+ units, mixed or all the same). Sale ends Feb 17, 2017.

Same as the Facom part but now with Proto's US warranty.

J500A........$64.00ea ($48.00ea, 3+ sets)
J501AMP......$64.00ea ($48.00ea, 3+ sets)
J501A........$64.00ea ($48.00ea, 3+ sets)
J505A........$72.00ea ($54.00ea, 3+ sets)
J506A........$72.00ea ($54.00ea, 3+ sets)

If you're interested, drop me an email ( [email protected] ) and let me know which pliers you'd like. I'll send you a Paypal request when they're ready to ship. You can find details and photos on my website of the Facom versions........just drop the letter "J" in front of the part numbers listed above. There's an online video of the Facom series at
.

I own both the Facom and the Grip On, both recent purchases. I've also sold Vise Grips for 25+ years, and there is no comparison between the Facom and anything else I have seen, as far as build quality and adjustability. I bought mine from Steve@ Ultimate Garage, and will probably order a few more pair of the Proto version.

I'm intrigued by these, just wish I could try them out before ordering a few. The 501AMP in particular, I'd like to see how it pivots, opens, locks & unlocks before sinking money into a pair.

I placed an order for the larger three pliers, I have the older versions and like them. The new mechanism seems very interesting.

When do you expect them to ship, weeks, months??

Thanks...........nice pictures. Enjoy them. I've dropped the individual pricing for people who only need 1 set.
