Anyone with a france made 440 wrench? Post a comparing pic with a taiwan 440

I have sets of both-at least assuming the new "thinner open end" versions are all made in France. There is no COO on the packaging or the tool (in the UK). The only obvious difference is the etched code (discussed previously in this thread I think).

On the 24mm spanner (largest in the set of 14) the difference in thickness at the open-end measured out at slightly less than 1mm which works about to around 10%. I haven't yet checked the others to see which one is actually 15% thinner (package claims "Up to 15% thinner" than the previous 440).

If you had one in each hand (and ignoring the etched code) I be surprised if you'd notice any difference. By comparison I have two sets of Facom 40Rs; one set marked "France" and one with no COO where you can definitely spot the differences, particularly in details like the lettering.

I bought the new set as I was curious and it was cheap, but bottom line is both are excellent, so unless you work in desperately tight places where that tiny bit thinner on the open end will make a difference - I'd stick with whatever you can get the better deal on.

just got my new topbox, it*s from the facom xxl workstation modules, but it fittet perfect on the jet xl with the kit tubes! but i had too paint it yellow, so it would match the jet xl*s
what do you guys think?

NICE SETUP Cartsen! I love seeing high quality tool boxes that aren't the typical red, and plastered in JEG's and Summit racing stickers. Boring!

the bottom 8 drawer box costs 12500kr, the top 4 drawer costs 4500, the side cabinet 1800, the top wall cabinet 3000, the top hook panel 1800, the clean up set(bincan, paperroll holder and table) 2000, and the spraycanholders on the side costs 600.
so the total is 26800NOK=4695$=3353€
and that*s without tools.. so its not cheap, but i really like the quality!

$4695 is quite a bit, but not as much as some GJ members spend on their boxes. Either way, I hear that the quality of these is top notch. If so, and you use it and love it, it's worth every penny. Again, cool box Cartsen.

a got a couple fine tooth hf ratchets that look just like that falcom ratchet with the black handle.

Me too, I have the 1/4, 3/8 and the 1/2 Ratchet from Harbor Freight. Very close in design to the Facom ratchet but side by side (since I have the 3/8 Facom) you can spot the fake

I have their sort and long with flex head 3/8 rachets and a 1/2 inch rachet. By far the nicest rachets I have ever owned and far nicer than snap-on.

I have the Facom 3/8 J161L, nice ratchet but first impression is that the head is too bulky. Very Smooth mechanism, I must add!

production date code...

top one was made in France as indicated on the ratchet handle.
bottom one was most probably made in Italy in USAG's Gemonio factory.

I have a 3/8 J.161L with no additional letters on top and the Bottom says France X, don't know if this adds to the confusion or clarify it?

yeah... Facom has(had?) a problem with CoO after the Stanley takeover... some made in France weren't even marked France, some from Italy were "finished" in France and had a french CoO on their package but none on the ratchet and to boot some guys(maybe union maybe not) *inside* Facom were pretty insistent that *some* of the round head rats were Taiwan made without CoO and packaged in France with misleading printed CoO information...

i hate those CoO games, another reason why i almost only buy NOS Facom stuff when really cheap.

Now that I see them, I saw a Stanley ratchet that extends like that but don't remember the head design I will have to check the Stanley and let you know.

The addition of the quick release function really takes away the good looks of their new ratchets....IMO

Comparing with the world's first(?), 72-tooth round head that Facom is so famous for:

Perhaps Facom is trying to save production costs? In this case, ratchets are just like ratcheting wrenches, only with a drive square built-in to it, good looks, and a comfortable handle. ....but wait, ratcheting wrenches are just like ratchets anyway....

I'll speculate that these are coming from New Tools, who just happens to be a major supplier of ratcheting wrenches (and non-serviceable ratchets, too).

Just snapped a 7mm 40 series spanner off the bay to add to my set. Don't really need it so much - in fact I there's only one job I can think off that I need a 7mm spanner on (actually, two spanners), but it was only £3.80 shipped! Isn't here yet, so here's the ebay photo. Has an engraving on it, but not the end of the world;

I have got as gifts the Facom Allen wrenches, Pliers and screwdrivers. they kick ***.

The torx L-wrenches have a rounded end, and they are very hard on the tip. These were very expensive in France.

The "L" Series ratchets ..........RL/JL/SL/KL are marketed as dustproof, maintenance free ratchets and don't require service. This is probably a good thing as the standard ratchets require periodic (annual) lubrication and cleaning which most people never do.

There's a 161 and a 171 pear head ratchet in each drive..........the 171's have the pushbutton release, the 161's do not.

I have that same ratchet, but it is branded Husky from Home Depot. It's a decent ratchet, but nothing super special.

I'm afraid I'm starting to turn into a Facom fanatic.
I have a couple ratchets so far, and I just grabbed these on ebay for $20.

I'm drooling over the 440 wrenches, but I JUST bought a Tekton set, and I can't come up with a single complaint about them. Maybe eventually I'll see an offer I can't refuse.
