So I'm looking at electric heaters and from what I've gleaned here and in other research this is a much recommended heater. Does this heater have an off switch or merely a low setting? I don't have a need for an external thermostat and don't really want to wire in a switch. I also believe that breakers shouldn't be used as on off switches. But I want to be able to turn the heater off when I don't need it. If this is the case then I have many more heaters in this range to choose from that have the controls I need built in. I've looked at manuals online and don't see one. Apparently even though it is advertised as a 2500 - 5000 watt heater it isn't switchable on the fly - it has to be set initially. I found that strange. Not sure what the theory behind that is.

And no - this isn't me asking you to tell me how expensive electric heat is.

Yes... when you turn the knob all the way to the left that shuts off the unit. It has a detent.. and you can feel it click off.

I've got two of the FU54's. They are great heaters.

That's good news - amazingly I couldn't find that even after reading a manual for the heater

I concur, counterclockwise to engage the detent for the off position. I have one and have been quite happy in my 22x28 garage with 9' ceiling. I takes the chill off rather quickly and the fan throw is pretty good at 10-15' +/- by feel. My garage is attached to the house, insulated on 2 sides only and the roof is minimally insulated (insulation is project for later). I have mine located up high in a corner blowing almost diagonally across and it seems to mix very well.

Unit is rather quite when running and not obnoxious.
