I hear running a few pints of drygas will give clean results as it burns almost completely emission free. We don't have emission or inspection here. Big money maker for the states though. Buy a few caps and return them. better to have a few than one that may be defective. And never assume the newish PVC is good. Plenty of poor quality aftermarket parts that are defective out of the box. Most seasoned mechanics learn this lesson and stay away from cheap aftermarket parts.....they fail ALOT! You may also cheat the test some by disconecting some of the emission stuff and letting it breathe into the engine bay as a last resort...maybe.

As I understand the law in California, if a cop stops you for any reason and sees the "check engine"/"wrench" light on, they automatically issue you an emissions violation citation.

Maybe true if it is CHP running around with the pickup trucks that check big rigs. Maybe some small town law enforcement agencies that have noting better to do like Ridgecrest California:lol:. But LACSD or LAPD have to much on there plate to be concerned about check engine light.

As for the Check engine light? That does not always mean it is an emissions problem and could be something else:)...

Several years ago, I took my '86 Tbird in for its bi annual California smog test. The tech told me the gas cap was bad, and if I didn't allow him to replace right then, I would have to bring it back and pay for another smog check. It just so happened that he had a box of gas caps sitting right next to the smog machine, so I told him to go ahead and replace it, but give me back my old gas cap. As soon as I got home, I replaced the new cap with the original, drove it like that for two years until my next smog check was due. Went to a different smog check station and it passed with the old gas cap that had failed two years before. I think in addition to being a smog station, he was in the replacement gas cap business.

Nope, that will get you failed immediately because part of the inspection involves inspecting emission equipment for evidence of tampering....

You tamper/remove=you fail emissions test....:scared:

Since OBD-II (96), yes. If the light is blinking it is a severe problem that could damage the engine or other emission components. (Most common cause of a blinking Check Engine Light is a sever misfire.)

Besides a Brake Warning Light (required by law; indicates that the parking brake is ON or that there is an imbalance between the front and rear master cylinder pressure) most (all?) vehicles have an Anti-lock Warning Light.
