Hi, I recently picked up this Fairbanks platform scale. I cant find much online about them... does anyone know how to tear one down for restoration, or more importantly, how do I adjust it? It seems to be about 20 to 25lbs off

First thing is to remove the wood deck on the platform, 4 big screws. Then you can see the 'works' It's not uncommon for one or more pivots to get out of place when moving them around. Then make sure that the rod in the column is in place at the swing arm. When you have confirmed all the linkages are in place then put the deck back on the platform and set the slide to zero. The arm should be floating. If not then the counter weight on the end of the arm is hollow and has a screw in it that you remove and add or subtract weight, lead shot, till the arm floats at zero. This has to be done on a near level floor.

You also have to be sure that the additional weights you add to the arm are correct for the scale you have.

good luck
