Could it be this Bend Pac lift is an older model that may have been made in USA? Everything sold by this company is made in China, now. The story line is the California company designs their product line in California and has their products made to their specifications in factories they own, outside of the USA.
Make America and Canada Great Again starts with me, not an elected someone in our capitol. So, as much as is possible I always buy Made in North America first. I am often able to buy a suitable used machine that was made here.
Buying Made in our countries is an investment the future and jobs North America.

That's so disappointing. I always associated BendPak with being made in USA but the fact that the stuff is made in China now is annoying to me. I don't want to de-rail the thread. Check BendPak off the list for me of stuff to buy.

I think a thread like this should be allowed to have "alternative facts" . This may help the OP and be s public service announcement to others. I have a BP story, but I am not saying anything, yet, because they are going to fix the problem they and I have. While the fix is in the works, it is not done yet. If I had asked about where it is made rather than assuming Made in USA I would not likely have this problem .

Rotary are designed and manufactured in Indiana, and are probably the most well-known USA brand.

I was dead-set on BP until I joined this forum...I thought they were made in the USA, but obviously found out they are being manufactured in China. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but for what they cost and the product problems people on here report, I'll pass.
Note that Direct Lift is a Rotary brand company (Dover Corporation), those are manufactured in China, but should still carry the same quality control.

How much does the Backyard Buddy lift cost? I can't find a pricelist anywhere.
Other than being manufactured completely in the USA, what other features do you find superior to other lift brands?

Buy a Mohawk lift. Proudly made 30 mi from me in Amsterdam, NY. Not a lot of manufacturing left in upstate NY. But what's left is good. Mine is a Mohawk.

I'd say it is highly possible that they are the same company. Other companies have gone through name changes over time as well.

I bought a Backyard Buddy lift over 20 years ago and I use it for service work all the time. Yes, It was expensive, and I bought it at a time when there were few Chinese (cheap) alternatives. The lift has been bulletproof, with no problems at all. It is a very sturdy lift, and I feel safe under it. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I think that they go for somewhere between 3 and 4 thousand. They are secretive about price, because they cannot compete based on price. They can compete only on quality. It is a very nice lift.
All that being said:
Would I buy another one? ( I don't think I will ever need another one.)
Maybe. I have no complaints, but I would look at Mohawk and Rotary. I will not buy a Chinese lift for a couple of reasons. I do not trust the quality control. Most of them are rickety by comparison, and some of the designs look questionable to me. I also like the idea of buying American.

Funny how opinions change over time. When I bought my lift (6 years ago) the consensus here on the GJ seemed to be that Bendpak was one of the better lifts. Now they are considered junk. What changed? Are the lifts different now?

BendPaks are probably brought up because they are so popular and affordable. The Rotarys, Worths and Mohawks are purchased less frequently, maybe of higher quality, cost more and are therefore talked of less. More BendPaks vs the rest.

The lightest Mohawk is too heavy duty for me. Nice machinery. The freight to the west coast and the lazy Canadian Dollar is a deal killer for me. right now.

A lot of guys love to bash BendPak around here, but many have them and are happy with them. And for some of us, they are the only choice because of space constraints. I'd love to buy a Mohawk or Rotary, but they are flat out just too big for the space I have available. Not all of us can build 1000+ sq ft dream shops.
Until Mohawk or Rotary churn out a 7000-9000 lb lift that can fit comfortably in a standard garage, they just aren't going to be an option for some of us home gamers.

I have the A-7 in my 24x24 garage and it fits very nicely. They are very compact. Hydraulic line is overhead between the trusses. My ceiling is only 11'.

Price out a BendPak with the options you want, then multiply by 3 and you will be very close. Commercial quality Rotary is cheaper.
That said, been very pleased with my professionally installed BendPak HD9-XW.

Bought an HD9XW 2 years ago. Great lift, use it just about every day and have had no problems. Up here in the Great White North bought it through Babco. I checked them all out, ended up with the Bendpak because of the physical size (would fit in the space I needed) and would lift my 08 Megacab RAM. Lately there is a lot of Bendpak bashing going on, don't know why. Out of all the Chinese lifts out there, I think they build a pretty good lift, and for peace of mind, mine is ALI certified, many are not

I don't know why is not a good way to start a rebuttal or defense. I know why because of my equipment failing to work as it should because of design fault.
This company has been easy to deal with. After I sent detailed information of the situation, the company offered a solution. The company and I were both victims of supply problem.
Our local distributor is likeable and knowledgeable. So with the crippling difficulty of available and affordable made in Canada, I may have to grit my teeth and.................. First I will be watching Craigslist.
