i think the left one is a KR557 8 drawer box. it is only 32" wide. notice the height difference between it and the middle. there might be a newer, kr657 version with roller bearing slides. not sure.

the middle is either a KR555 8 drawer, with friction slides, or a KR655, with ball bearing slides. interestingly enough, if it is a KR555, there will be dividers in a bunch of the drawers. if it is a KR655, there won't be any, at least that is my experience.

i have one of each of the "55" models. if the middle box is in good shape, and it certainly looks to be, it is not completely unreasonably priced, at least for around here. if he was within two hours of here, i might be talking to him (like i need more of those boxes . . . ) and see if i could talk him down somewhat. the "57" box is likely worth less than the "55", but, again, it looks like it is in exceptional shape.

anyway, those are *great* boxes. i am really happy with mine. the "57" is comparable, i would expect the same satisfaction from it.

replacement friction slides are still available from snapon, but not the tracks they run in. i dont know about the roller bearing slides, accuride probably has something, though.

the ad has been on CL for 20 days at least (it may have been reposted). Unless the guy is not willing to budge a bit on his prices, there may be some other reason why they haven't sold, in a city of 20 million people.

boxes smaller than 40" languish on CL around here for a long time. usually, they price them near what the 50"+ boxes are priced at, although they dont sell either. that is the great thing about ebay, you can look at finished auctions, and see what sold, at what prices, and what didnt.

the narrower boxes also tend to have tops, which seems to be out of style now. everyone wants a "work top" according to my son, who is just getting into wrench turning.

my impression, from talking to people who are trying to sell is that the only people interested in their boxes are trying to "cheat" them with "low ball" offers.

look at this listing:
http://worcester.craigslist.org/tls/5812176446.html

look familiar? does it remind you of the left side box in the original post? except for the rust and damage, of course. wants 750$ for it. now, compare that box, and price to the one in the first posting. doesn't look too bad anymore . . . .

but, sadly, that original posting would likely not sell here, either.

Mine is the KR655 with roller bearings. I have the matching top and side cab. It's my home box I bought used over 10 years ago. I love it. At work I have a bottom only that is deeper and wider than the side and bottom 655. I wish my home version was deeper but for me at home it's a very nice combo of boxes. The "work surface" is nice but tends to collect a lot of **** on top of it..

Thank you all!!

I was able to the two of three that were ball bearing at $1250. Now I'm looking for liners that would fit the drawers and a better workbench mat for each. None so far are wide enough that I found.

The models that I bought are:
KRA6800 A4 (made in Canada)
KRL656 (made in USA)
