Saw this on Dealnews:

DiscountMags discounts a selection of 1-year magazine subscriptions to $4.99 via coupon code "DEALNEWS". That puts each subscription at the lowest total price we could find by at least $5.

Family Handyman Magazine 1-Year subscription (11 issues; pictured)
Popular Photography Magazine 1-Year subscription (12 issues)
Wired Magazine 1-Year subscription (12 issues)

Of note, you can purchase up to a 3- or 4-year subscription at this per-year price for each of these magazines.

Thanks, I seem to pick this up every now and then. Now I can get it for a couple years for the price of 2 at the store.

I like this mag a lot. I am new to working on the house and get a lot of great ideas come it. It also helps me feel like I can work on stuff without screwing it up. Before I was scared to do things without help. It goes on sale for $5 a year at least 4 times a year. I picked up 4 years last time.

Dang, I was too slow also. It is now only a $3.99 discount per year :(

This is one of those "jump on it NOW" deals. I missed one and then setup a Google Alert to track it. Next time around ( a few months ago), I got in for 4 years.

I used to really enjoy this mag. Then it seemed like every issue became one article on "how to paint" or "build this bookcase" and then the rest would be 500 mini articles on gimmicky products that you just couldn't live without.

That being said, at $5 buck a year, it's still seems worth it.

I subscribed for 4 years a while ago as well. Got my first issue last month, and unfortunately, if that issue was indicative of the average issue, I'm thinking it's $20 wasted.

I literally took me 5 minutes or less to look through it, and found nothing of interest. There was even a bit on how to drive a motorcycle, however that relates to being a family handyman. 95% of the pages seemed to be full of ads.

I guess time will tell since I'm still subscribed for another 3 and 11/12ths year. :)

I've subscribed (at a discount) for the last 6-7 years. For a few years, some issues were really good, while some were more of what you described. Lately however, they seem to be all what you described. Very basic stuff and a ton of ads.

I keep a folder of interesting articles/projects that I rip out and save for later reference. There are a LOT more in my folder from 5-6 years ago than from recent issues.

I'm on the fence of whether I want to re-up when my current subscription expires.

Let's hope it returns to it's old ways.

I missed out on the $5/yr subscription but noticed that amazon has it for $10/yr currently.
