Family Portrait - Complete set!

OK, so there's no such thing as a complete set of tools, but I have to have come close with my latest addition to the Crescent family: The biggest I've seen, the monster 18 incher at the bottom of the picture.

That gives me all the sizes from 4" to 18". Yee hah! I know there are keychain-sized 2 inchers, but the ones I've seen don't qualify as tools.

I know everybody and his brother makes this pattern of wrench, but I was a bit surprised to see how many brands I have in my modest (by GJ standards) collection: Crescent of course, BluePoint, Challenger, Channellock, Craftsman, Husky, Mac, Penncraft, Pittsburgh and Proto.

There's one other brand I'm not sure of. The 6" has had its brand name ground off, but there's a logo that remains. I've included close-ups in hopes someone can identify it. Y for Youngstown? That's all that comes readily to mind.

One that I'd like to add is a 6" Penncraft. That would complete my set of Penncrafts. Anybody got one to sell?


Now, I'm sure someone will burst my bubble by chiming in with a 36 incher!

Penncraft you just do not find those just anywere. Those are keepers.

Nice collection. You've got a good cross-section of manufacturers.

You're not done yet, though. 24" wrenches in that pattern are relatively common. I'm not sure about sizes larger than that, at least not in that pattern. I'm sure they're out there. The largest size adjustable wrenches usually have different adjustment mechanisms.

I have a Facom 18" don't use it often but when it's needed sure glad I have it.

Had a Crescent 24" but it grew legs.

There were some oddball sized larger adjustable wrenches, I can remember seeing a Proto 20" before. But 24" is common and I have seen Blue Point & Bahco 30" adjustables. Larger than that and the wrench looks different with a pinned adjustable jaw and no worm gear.

Op way cool set just think about all the other brands you are missing; why I bet you have not even scratched the surface yet...oh so many great names but alas a life-long quest to complete all those killer sets!

Nice Herbrand, Woody. Another Ohio mfg who I rarely see. I know where a 6" Utica with the locking lever is, I may have too many as it is.

Here are the twins, a Cornwell and a Challenger, both JP Danielson design. Cornwell is used Challenger is nos. Edit: sorry pix is upside down

Well, shoot. Crescent 24" available at HD. $99.97 and free shipping. Several for sale on fleaPay too. As several have said, not rare; I'd just never seen one. Guess I've got to be on the lookout now for a good price on a used one.

Bingo! With that information, I can just barely trace the outline of the bottom edge of "Craftsman" on the other side. It has the older logo with the kind-of squared off C, but not the underline. I'm not sure where that puts it age-wise, but it certainly isn't new.

It might be an over-run at the Circle Y factory, and they ground off the logo and sold it as a commodity wrench. Maybe you have a RARE tool.

Now all you have to do is find out who made it.
