Fan for 8ft ceiling

I found the thread for the popular Home Depot fan, but it has a down rod. Any recommendations for a fan with 8ft ceilings in the garage? No light, just fan.

Thanks

Hmmm. Looking to set yourself up for an accident? Most fans designed for low ceilings still take up 7-10 inches. I'm 6'1" and can lift my hand past the blade height without trying. And it's not just an outstretched arm--do you ever carry anything that might travel over your head--even a broom handle--oops! Get a wall fan or box fan.

I will second the wall fan given ceiling height. I wanted a ceiling fan too but I was limited on height like OP, I just installed a shop style wall fan. It has helped a lot. It was a learning curve trying to slow it down but GJ helped me sort that out.

about the same cost and can be mounted on a single stud with two lag bolts.

Yes, having garages with low ceiling heights my whole life has me always instinctively looking up to make sure I don't hit lights or anything with objects... I'm pretty well used to it so hitting the fan would be low risk.

I have a box fan right now that I've been using but it doesn't do much. My last house the garage had a door front and rear which allowed good cross flow, this one doesn't.

Do the wall mount fans move enough air that they would work for 900sqft?

The high velocity fans will move way more air then a box fan. Personally I hate the noise. Nothing beats a ceiling fan but in a shop I’d go with something else. Even two box fans at different angles will maybe get the whole room moving

You have developed those instincts over the course of a lifetime, but how about a visitor or the neighbor that you asked over to help you with something? People these days are so litigious, you better make sure your homeowner's insurance would cover any fan-related accidents in your garage. Check the CFPM rating on any fan to estimate if it is suited to your needs. Even if you have to buy two, it's cheaper than a single visit to the hospital.

I grew up in a house with 8 foot ceilings and the standard hunter style fan and light combos. I'm about 6'3" and have put my arm up into a fan on multiple occasions while it runs full speed and have never so much as had a bruise. Unless you are running some really thin blades or something metal, I can't imagine this being that dangerous. It would be way more dangerous to hit your head on a glass light fixture attached to the fan.

I bought a cheap 36" ceiling mount from HD, just screwed it to the ceiling, wired it in and threw the fancy motor cover in the trash. Does a decent job of circulating air from the AC unit.
