Curious what size you are using in your shop/garage. I have 600sqft and am thinking about getting a drum fan.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 30” pedestal fan from Harbor Freight and it moves a good bit of air even on its lowest settting. It’s also loud, a bit of a pain to move and is very directional. I also have some smaller air movers that look like a snail that do pretty well but have similar limitations. I’d probably go for several smaller fans vs one large one so you can position to get more circulation and not have to be in line with it. Wall mounting will save floor space and oscillating wall mounted be an even better option.

Forget a drum fan unless you want your mind beaten into a pulp while you work out there. There are a number of wall or pedestal fans that will work better and are much quieter. We've got some 36" drum fans at work and the noise off of them just fatigues you no matte what you are doing. If I'm the only one working in the hangar, I'll turn them off and move one of the BigA fans around to where I'm at and actually get something done.

Ill get some pics in my garage. But i have one of these i got free, welded to a metal stand. When i turned it on, it flew backwards LOL

I added rear supports so it does not tip anymore.

Moves massive amount of air. I have to face it away from me when im welding

How much air in cubic feet per minute do you want to move with the fan?
Yes, moving lots of air may equate to feeling more cooler or hotter but comes at a cost of noise, complexity, and power consumption.

I have a 48 inch one that I welded up a frame for and added cattle panels to front and back just to protect dog noses and tails. I also put it on wheels. The fan pulley is a lot bigger than the one in that photo, so the fan turns pretty slow & quiet. It still moves a whole lot of air, but not at high velocity.

How much air do you want to move?

Do you want to use it as an exhaust fan and set it in the doorway to blow fumes outside?

Or just to circulate air in the shop? If you just ant to circulate air, then any ceiling fan will work, and for 600 sqft one is plenty.

A drum fan is fine, but moves a lot of air and is noisy, even a small 24" drum fan is probably too much.
