Got a killer year end deal in a box I didn’t really need. Heck the color I didn’t even like. 40% of msrp made me pull the trigger. KRL 1032 wide guy. It’s a 72” long box that is normally a three bank but the skinny side lower drawers were omitted for wider than usual lower drawers.

Picked up a menards birch butcher block top. A little bit of Brazilian rosewood stain and a coat of “Glaze Coat” epoxy clear. The epoxy is about 1/8” thick

The reddish tint and high gloss clear makes the box pop. I actually like the cranberry color now.

The wide lower drawers are amazing. Won’t post the whole box but here’s a few pics. The lighting in the shop is hard to get a nice pic of both boxes until the car is off the lift

I have the almost identical box (KRL 1003?) in cranberry. I added a hang on SO extender box a couple of years ago and painted it to match. Nice box.

butcher block don't look cheap with stain and epoxy coated .
comes out a nice match.
Wide drawers pretty good and probably allows better space usage and layout options .
Shame you don't like the color, have craiglist it cheap as nobody going be that interested in a used snappy cranberry box . i'll keep an eye on ohio craigslist lol ...

Thats what I did on my green double bank. looks like a 3 bank now...

KRL 1003 was the first triple bank in the master series. one wide top drawer, but it only covered the left and middle bank drawers, and skinnies on the right

the 1023 was the same box but two wide top drawers.

the 1032 had full length two top drawers. almost 6' wide drawers. and the wide drawers of the 1003/1023 down the left side.

the 1163 is the newest model triple bank that has the super long top two drawers and the conventional 3 bank layout below it.

He actually had an extreme green and black 1023. I wasn't digging it. I wanted the wide top drawers and the wider bottom drawers, and the price wasn't as good. He had 8 boxes he wanted to unload before the end of the year. almost bought an orange 1022 double bank until he threw me the cranberry bone.

What kind of paint did you use to color match the cranberry? I have a couple Lista lockers that are close in color I'm going to try and paint and stack them beside the box once I rearrange my shop. Cranberry with gold trim was popular in the mid to late 90's. I didn't care for the gold trim at all then. the darker titanium trim looks really good I think.

I love the color now.. I was dead set on a used double bank repo green box. looked at a couple on craiglist. I wanted a wall of green boxes.... long story short I bought it because it was cheap. now I like the color. a lot.

I have a cranberry box and can't stand the color. But that top really looks great with that color. So much so that you're making me reconsider if I want to keep the box or not ;)

Looks great. I totally understand not getting the color you would prefer. I meant to order a matte black box back when I got mine, ended up accidentally getting the gloss black. But at the end of the day if the price is right might as well.

I bought one of the Menards butcher block tops last year and didn't know they were birch. I thought they were maple, but now I see the difference.

What kind of paint did you use to color match the cranberry?

If you look on the back of your box it should have the SN label which also lists the PPG paint code (51997). My bodyshop store deals PPG so I think, no problem, have them mix up a quart. Oddly enough, they couldn't use the PPG number! They did use their color match camera which came up with a 99% match. The end cab was bright red when I got it.

When you say "cranberry" we are discussing color, right?

Are the screwdriver and hammer handles available in special colors to match your box color? I am waaay out of my little circle of experience here. I get preferring one box layout or size over another.

So, they have end of year model closeouts just like car dealers? I thought boxes were discontinued because they couldn't sell enough. It's almost like you are discussing fashion trends or collector editions.
