I bought three of the squirrel cage blowers from harbor freight and mounted them on a wall by the ceiling. They blow across the shop and move quite a bit of air, enough so I have to turn them off when welding.

I have a Global Industries 30" oscillating wall fan. 3 speeds and tilt angle. Runs every day, all day during the summer.

I am building a 18x40 garage right now. You think one on each side of middle facing the ends would work good? I have garage doors on both ends. I been debating wall fans or floor fans. How loud are they?

First, congratulations on the build! Here's my experience... I run my fan in a 20x20 attached garage. I'm very happy with the range of oscillation and 3 speeds, it moves a lot of air and Global Industries had great prices. Operating on "high," which it does a lot, I've never found it distracting loud. It doesn't overpower my music and I can have a conversation without yelling. (Although, the first time I turned it on I did joke that it sounds like an airplane is taking off in my garage. But it's a large fan)

PS

I did a quick look at Global's web site and in the FAQ it says... "58 decibels at its lowest setting." It didn't list decibels at medium or high - maybe you could give them a call.

Thanks a lot. I am in florida so I am doing a lot of research on fans. I am not going with air conditioning cause its for working on my cars so a lot of times car will be running. I am leaning toward wall mounted fans just so it one less thing on ground as I am sure garage will fill up fast. Was thinking of two of these each point at opposite door and maybe a cheap fan to move around on floor if needed.

I use a 1/2hp 3 speed furnace blower. It's new enough that it's direct drive and uses little electricity vs. the amount of air that it moves, which is quite a bit even on low where it's very quiet as well.

Vornado for inside and for garage.

That is what I use also. I have 2 of them in the shop and 2 in the house. Quiet and serious blow.
