Farenheat operation question

I just received my farenhet 5000w heat and took it for a quick test. After it ran for a few minutes I turned it "off". Here's my two questions....

1. It seemed like it ran for a while after shutting off. I know the fan is supposed to run for a bit, I guess I was surprised how long it ran. Is it normal to run for a while?

2. Because there is no off switch when you turn the dial all the way to the lowest setting I it in fact off? I don't need to go shut the breaker off do I?

The heater has a thermal switch in it to control the fan, when it heats up, the fan turns on, after you turn it down, it runs till the thermal switch is satisfied its cool. Its actually possible that the fan might come on a second time after it shuts off if the heater is cooled but remaining heat in the metal and coils trips the fan switch again.

The low end stop on the thermostat probably operates a cam in the switch that blocks the thermostat from making contact. That is the way the farenheat wall thermostat I installed recently for a bathroom heater worked. In periods of non use such as summer, I would trip the breaker however.

I actually have 2 of them in my shop. Have had 1 for about 10 years, the other for about 2 years.

1. Yes, it is normal for the fan to run awhile once you turn them off. The fan also does not come on instantly when you turn the heater on, there is a lag time.

2. Yes, it is off on the lowest setting. No, You don't need to shut off the breaker. The only time I shut off all the breakers is when I am on vacation.

I have two Farenheat FUH54 heaters. I have had them a few years, but I just started using them a few weeks ago. One runs fine, but the other one shuts on and off every five to six minutes...whatever the temperature.

I called Marley (manufacture about it). The tech tried to tell me about ambient temperature affecting fan cycle. I said I would buy that except temperature is the same for both, and one is working fine and the other is not.

The he said there is a little round disk in back of the element that controls the fan delay. He gave me a number to call for a replacement. (800-654-3545). I called and learned that with shipping that little disc is $42. Now I think I only paid about $250 for the heater from Fleet and Farm. So, now I thinking what the %^#$$.

I am going to have the electrician who run the line to the two take a look at it.

The recycling problem issue raised by the original poster may be a more common problem than we want to think. I would like to know if any others have similar problems with the heaters.

Now I worked in my shop this morning. It was about 45 when I started. The one heater did its usual on and off every five minutes. The other one ran for an hour or so and then shut off for a few minutes and then back on working again.

I got it today. I installed it and everything is fine. I wished the technician at Marley had just sent me one, but I had to go the retailer (who is probably more interested in future sales than the Marley tech is). I am planning to send the old control back to Marley and tell them to check it out.

And three days later the heater is still working fine. Wished the tech at Marley had been a bit more accomodating. I did send him the faculty fan delay (and a reasonably nice note). Maybe he will respond.

Realize that this is an old thread but for anyone still running these units as I am I wanted to confirm the fan delay fixes this issue. I found the part online for $65 and it took a month to get it but my unit is running like new again. Thanks to all on this thread as I’d never have solved it on my own.
