Fascia material - help with identification?

I am going to be painting the house, detached garage and sheds this spring. One thing I have run into is an area in the corner of the house where the fascia was damaged by the previous owner and left exposed. The material is extremely hard. When I tried to drill it, it required a masonry bit. But, in the area where it is exposed to the weather it is flaky and brittle. I'd like to find a similar material to replace these two pieces with. But I have no idea what the stuff is called. Any idea?

I emailed your photo to the oldest lumber yard in the area.
He called me back and said "discontinued no longer available" and that it is most likely a product made of compressed asbestos.
That would certainly explain the delamination

If that's the case I'd be tempted to cover that corner with a piece of galvanized sheet metal or aluminum.

Once caulked and painted it would be barely noticeable. Definitely better than ripping out a bunch of soffit because you can't match it.

I'm not a betting man, but I suspect that would be asbestos too.
without seeing a broader picture I'd be hesitant to suggest anything., but maybe it's a good time to rip it all down & replace it all?

I hope for the OP it’s not asbestos.

Here they let that slide as long as it not falling apart.

I have lived in house where the exterior walls where covered in asbestos tiles.

No problem when the house was sold.

Like it was said it could be also Hardie board though.

My current house had some on it that fell apart like that.

Iirc there was a recall/lawsuit over some type of Hardie boards because of that.
