FastCap Marker - Is this normal?

I know this is a small thing, but I usually have a Fastcap Long Nose Marker around. I get them from Menards, and they are quite useful for marking inside holes (such as drilled a hole in a 2x4 and want to line it up on a secondary piece). Thing is, it seems this thing can't contain its ink so well. The tip end inevitably starts filling up with ink, to the point anytime I open up the cap, it sprays ink everywhere and bleeds and is just a general mess. Second one this has happened to me. Is this normal?

Here you can see the entire tip is just covered in leaking ink.

Seems like it might just be the nature of the design with all that exposed tip constantly drawing ink from the reservoir via capillary action. I can see how it would be very useful in certain situations. Maybe you have to accept it's a short-life consumable. You may also contact the mfr to see what they have to say.

I don't know of any other brand markers like that with the long tip. Maybe other members will have a suggestion.

Normal? Mine doesn't do that. I store it horizontally in a drawer. I've had about a year I guess, with no sign of leakage. I only recently started using it for other things than cutting Kaizen foam, and yes it's very handy at times.

Yeah I go through those real quick. They just don't last, I opened a pack of sharpies about the same time as I got my last shipment and 2-3 of the fastcaps later I still haven't dried up one sharpie.

The one I bought is doing that and ive had it about 8 months. I store mine vertical and admit it doesn't get used much.

I store the few I have horizontal in a drawer and they're probably a year old. They don't look like that they're clean.

I guess I'll keep it horizontal from now on. I usually store it in a tin can w/ the rest of my sharpees, I figured it could handle that like most other markers in the world....

It's still a useful marking tool....maybe they'll improve on it eventually.

Mine don't do that, maybe there is a bad batch. I've been using those for a couple years now. They are stored vertically in my tool bag, and seem to last a lot longer than regular sharpies or milwaukee sharpies. I gave a few out to coworkers and they now buy them as well because they find they last longer as well.

Cool marker. Never seen. Does the tip deform?

No, not that i've noticed. In all other regards it's quite useful. I use it most for marking through thick material such as lining up holes drilled in 2x4s. The tip is pretty rigid, doesn't seem to deform at all under normal use.
