I'm going to try to install Rubbermaid Fasttrack to hollow concrete block in my garage with 1.25 tapcon screw. The fasttrack has 2 holes every 8 inches.

How many tapcons should I use?

Acording to their instructions you need to attach it every 8" with one attachment, either a screw or an anchor.

Yikes. This means that I will have to drill 44 holes for the tapcons for the two 84in segments that I have..

Did you end up doing this and how did it work out? I’m planning to put up the same system in my cinderblock wall garage. I was between tapcons and togglebolts…

Tapcons work great, I would use the 1/4 x 1 or 1.25. Keep a tube of structural epoxy handy in the event you have some that are a bit loose.

I daresay you'll find plenty of people who've used tapcons, wherever the OP is. I was just thinking in my head if 10% of them break off, ha ha. That's 4. but if you got 88 holes, the odds of getting 44 good ones is high.

That is not what it actually says.
"84" Rail must hit 6 studs for maxium weight capacity. Also, use anchors every 8" between studs"

So no you do not need to attach it every 8" along the full run. Hit 6 studs minimum and if your studs are at 16 O.C. put an additional anchor centered between the studs. If at 24 you will add 2 anchors between the studs.

As far as CMU the situation would be different. Since the block is self can carry far more weight I would assumg every 16" oc would be more than enough
