So I found myself back in the old home state of Maryland for a convention this week in Baltimore (that's Bawlmr in local-ese) and the siren-song of fatfillup's tool emporium was faaaaaar too strong and easily defeated my feeble attempts at resistance. After spending a good couple+ hours ensuring that every drawer in every cabinet in Phil's shop still opened and closed smoothly, I left with a nice assortment of ratchets, a few impact socket sets, and a small variety of other misc tools that had so far been excluded from my roll cabs. Sat down in my Bawlmr hotel room this eve and added the ratchets to the Ratchet Obsess... er, "collection" spreadsheet and Low-and-Behold!!! the tool emporium acquisitions have pushed the ratchet count just over the 850 mark! The Obsession lives on, with an eventual 1,000 count total starting to look ever so slightly more possible without going hard after the high $$$ truck brands - 91% of the 850 count are standard length USA ratchets, and only 6% of the total are from the Big Four truck brands (Snap-On, Mac, Matco, Cornwell).
Seriously, was great to catch up with Phil and Yvonne once again, drool over a ****-ton of quality used (and some NOS) mechanics tools (the vast vast majority of which are USA), and come away with some good additions. Once again I passed on much that I'll probably kick myself repeatedly for in the days ahead (like a set of Bonney wrenches I left behind on the last visit), but a big part of the fun of a visit to Phil's is there's always something else to be found that will ease the memory of those past shoulda purchases.
If anyone ever finds themselves in the Finksburg area, or are just jonesin' for a tool fix/tool surfin' trip that the local auctions, flea marts, truck/tractor/steam/car shows, etc can't fill, you must catch up with Phil at A Plus Pressure Washers - and plan on at least a few hours to spend, since even as organized as he is there's still a lot to drool and paw over/through.
As always thanks Phil! Already looking forward to the next visit!
