So please educate me on this... Is there a color more desired over the others when it comes to Snap on tools? Has one color replaced other? Or is it a collection thing amongst tool owners?

Mostly it's a collection thing...I personally prefer green. There are a few colors that were limited edition only.

For colored tools orange used to be the standard color for hard handles pre instinct(correct me if i'm wrong but most things came in orange first and certain things are still orange only). Red was the other color option mostly found on soft handle tools/dipped handle tools(like pliers and such)/air tools/hammers. A couple things seems to only come in black handles too.

There have always been runs of special colors, most commonly orange/green for things only found in red. Hard handles have come in more colors over the years then i care to list.

Now with instinct handle red seems to be the standard and orange/green are the option colors.

The biggest color frenzy seems to be green because it's the most common mass produced color option now aside from orange/red and it's a pretty obnoxious color.

Orange has a little following as well.

I don't think red really has a following cause it's kinda standard color.

Then there are people who just want to collect all special colors.

Most guys given the option choose a certain color some could care less. For me Red. Not so long ago the rage was orange now its green by a mile. Before long it will be purple or turquoise or tie-dye.

Strictly speaking about SO.....For me red boxes are a must. Not to say I don't appreciate the colored ones some guys have. I like red and black for my tools, but do have a good deal of the green mixing in as of late.

For me, color serves a couple purposes when selecting tools. One, it adds a little pizzazz and it's kind of "fun" to have colorful tools. I've gotten several comments on my green 1/2" cordless impact. Two, I'm less likely to lose my orange handled screwdriver, than the black one that kind of blends in to it's surroundings.

Recently I've been watching the pawn shops and flea mkt, for orange hard-handle SO screwdrivers. to replace my black handled ones at home. If the price was right I'd get a set with the pearl white handles, just because they look cool.

I prefer my tools in green as they look better and are easier to spot and less likely to forget next would be blue but harder to come by. And yes I use all my tools

Certain people like certain things be it ice cream, drink of choice or tool color. Sure there are statistical averages as to which colors are more sought after. For some reason the more feminine colors seem to be desired. :dunno: People will buy them for different reasons, not just because they think a certain color is cool. Theft prevention, matching other tools, having a group of different color tools for different tasks. Just to name a few.

Personally I'd like to see a blueish-teal, I think the closest that snap on made to that was the Bel Air edition. One of these days I'm going to paint all my boxes that color. I think it looks really good against the chrome. But then again that is just my opinion.

Seems like many a folks these days have a bright green fetish. Not my thing, but to each their own. In tool boxes green really seems to be the new red for standard.

Do they make those instinct screwdrivers with a blue handle insert? If not they should. Those comfort handles are nice looking tools just too much money in my opinion (I'm much more spartan in tool "selection").

Yellow. Not the rarest, but pretty rare.

I think Snap On isn't realizing how collectible colors are. They have yet to make a 1/4" ratchet with a yellow handle for example (or at least not recently). Don't think they make 1/2" HH yellow ratchets either. I like matching tools and color coordinated tools. For me I like the look but also find the colors functional- easy to distinguish, easy to find. I think SO should produce full ranges of tools in the many colors they currently offer (and corresponding to tool box colors).

Green & Orange Are pretty much the standard "Regularly Available" colors...if you wait long enough you could outfit your entire box with green handled tools as there seems to always be something available in green which comes & goes.

Other colors are special colors....Blue was the 2013 "Fathers Day Color"...Yellow was 2012. Wonder what the 2014 color will be? :lol_hitti

I'm old school as well not to mention I've had my tools since before there was a choice so it's Black for me. Also always had Red toolboxes but my last Snap On box which I still have is Black with Purple drawers and initially my reason for buying it was that it was deeply discounted but now that I've had it for 7 or 8 years I like it alot. I better like it. I retired 3 years ago and it's the last box I'll ever own.

In hard handle, it's orange for me. Maybe it's because that's the first handle colour I remember seeing or associating with Snap On, or maybe just because I just like it the best - not sure!

I've got red softgrips, red instinct, red hard handle, black hard handle, and orange hard handle (but only in mini). Green is pretty cool, but orange edges it for me.

What I do think might be cool/useful/whatever, would be having a different colour for each type of screwdriver - so for example, red for phillips, green for pozi, orange for flat, blue for torn, etc. Guess that ain't gonna happen since there's only three colours now!

I buy green for a couple different reasons.

I like it

And no one else in my shop has green tools. Makes it much easier to keep our stuff from getting mixed up.

I like green because there is a lot of orange on our machines and orange handled tools blend in like black handled tools do on cars.

I honestly have no preference. My combo screwdriver set is green. My torx set is red. My mini 4pc set is red. My pick set is orange. All my instinct handle hook and panel tools are red. Then I have a few black hard handles. My ratchets are green, red, blue and black. I also have a Orange, black and red ratcheting screwdrivers. I just buy what's in stock at the time I need/want it. I never really cared about the color. Just the functionality of the tools. I bought them to use not to look at.
I understand why guys color code in shops. Keeps it easy to keep track of their stuff. Some.just like their stuff to match. I get it. But i just never cared.

If I had a regular driver, I'd probably buy all the blue I came across.

Red/orange. Easy to spot and not *too* terrible to clean off sufficiently.

I purchased the original red products and original red tool box, but If I could go back.. I would of requested everything to be extreme green.
