The main thing is a smaller lighter driver. The M18 1/4" driver is a bit over the top for smaller screws.

If that's the thing honestly you should looking into the 3 different M12 clutched screwdriver offerings. They handle small screws with ease.

Unless you really want something impacting then Surge is different but that can be had on either platform. Not much difference between the two with weight and performance specs there though.

For a while around the Holidays the latest M12 impact driver was a killer deal at like $114 for a -22 twin battery kit.

I have a brand GEN 3 M18 impact driver its pretty awesome with the 4 mode settings. I was a free warranty replacement for an older model had I sent back for service. I was quite surprised how small it was compared to the older Gen 1 I had :D

Lately I've been using my M18 to speed up running screws into electrical boxes. No impact needed, and not much torque, either. The M18 is fast, but hard to not ****** up the screw from too much torque. A smaller, lighter, 'weaker' tool would be more appropriate.

I have one of the original 2401's and also the current FUEL screwdriver

The current M12 2401 is probably the least "powerful" tool in the lineup. Been around for more than a decade now. And more recently been given a new look since that time but still the same tool

A 2 battery kit is still under $100.

There have been past promos on a single battery kits for like $70 in the past

2406 is the 2 speed brushed version of the tool

2402 is the brushless FUEL model (top of the line)

The Milwaukee Addiction thread here on TGJ is probably the best place to make inquiries on all the Red Lithim Cordless tools

Do any of the m12 drill drivers or cordless screw drivers have a spindle lock like the snap on 14.4 screw driver?

Both types of chucks (3 jaw or collet insert) lock when you move the trigger's directional slide switch to the center position

M12 right angle grinder. TOTAL GAME CHANGER. I've pre-ordered two of the straight grinders that are shipping in March.

So far I’ve used it mostly for swapping out capacitors on tv circuit boards. Also used it on a 12 gauge wire splice. It heats up within 15 seconds or so and takes a good 10-15 min to cool down. I’ve used it with 3.0 batteries and have used it for a good hour or so with zero issues. I keep the tip clean and tinned and it works just like any hot iron. At first I found it a bit bulky as I was trying to use it like a pencil - like you would hold a traditional iron, but then I found that if I use it with a 90 degree bend I have the same type of control. Anyway not having the constant drag/pull of an electrical cord is the best part as it makes the tool feel totally free to move around, as needed. I highly recommend it! I doubt I’ll ever use a corded iron again.[/QUOT
My thoughts about it are pretty much the same. I use it in an industrial setting splicing wires putting new ends on and changing out components. Definitely a lot better than filling butane or dragging around electrical cord. I use the same type battery if I'm going to use it for a long time I have two of the smaller batteries and two of the 3ah at work. All my M12 tools are at work in my harbor freight 5 drawer tool cart. Only got the M12 because I could fit a lot of them in the cart. Screwdriver drill soldering iron band saw 1/4 3/8 ratchet 90° angle grinder flashlight cutoff tool and 3/8 stubby.

My older non-fuel M 12 hex key driver doesn’t lock when I put it in the neutral position. Maybe I need to look at the Newer fuel models

Do the screw driver m12 have a spindle lock?

Not quite sure what it is your looking for but if your asking about turning a screw manually against the motor gearing the bit wont turn. You can actually rotate the drill and force drive a screw with the bit.

Otherwise since the bit just pops in and out the collet I don't see any other need for locking the collet itself :dunno:

With the regular 3 jaw chuck drill center locking the trigger switch lets you tighten your bit better than going up against the gearing

1. 1/2” Stubby impact wrench. It’s amazing what this wrench can do with a 6.0 battery.

2. 3/8 Fuel ratchet. This is my most-used M12 tool, and my first-reach ratchet.

3. M12 Rover light. Usually used as my under-hood light. Puts out an awesome amount of light, and lasts a good while on the small 3.0CP batteries.

4. M12 Heated jacket. I was skeptical but once I got the sizing correct it’s been awesome. Looking forward to getting the hoodie or vest next.

5. M12 Fuel hackzall. Don’t have to use her that often, but she’s a winner when the occasion calls for a small recip.

6. M12 oscillating muti-tool. It’s as good as any multi-tool I’ve used, and it was free, so that’s hard to beat!

I did stray from the M12 line for more delicate work (like auto interior work) and got the DeWalt 12-volt screwdriver and 3/8” impact wrench.

The lighting on both of these is superior to their red counterparts, and the adjustable clutch on the screwdriver is a pleasure to use. The screwdriver is now one of my favorite tools, it’s just too bad Milwaukee couldn’t put out a tool like this.
