I refuse to order from catalogs or the internet and wait for what I want when I can buy what I need a few blocks from my house.
Just about everything I need is available right here at home at Menards or Runnings.

And, NO waiting or shipping costs.

Anyone care to post a link of their favorite on-line sites for the stuff you need?
If you come by and click on a site you "now like", leave a pass-along of your favorite places for the next guy to use..
I've been to www.webriggingsupply.com www.mechanicstoolsupply.com for supplies around the garage

That first website has excatly what I've been looking for. Now I know whats its called.

Good point, and I prefer supporting local business as well.

However, in my case we don't have a Menards or Runnings, just Home Depot and overpriced Ace Hardware.

If I plan ahead on my projects a bit, I can order from a good online store on Monday for a few minutes at work and it will easily be at my door by the weekend ready to go for when I have time.

It's not any different than a contractor putting in an order at the builders supply and them delivering it in a couple days when you're ready to start the job. In addition, even with shipping costs it's usually cheaper, and I didn't have to spend my gas or hours of my time tooling around town. I consider it a service more than saving pennies however.

Oh, and I like NorthernTool.com
For computer stuff, I've counted on NewEgg.com for years to the point that we use them a lot at work, and monoprice.com has great prices for cables.

Good idea for a thread.

McMaster Carr's paper catalog is more fun to browse through than the Sears Christmas Wish Book. I find it to be more useful than the on-line catalog, listing related items in the preceding and following pages you may not have thought of. Problem is, they will. not. send me one. I've tried phone calls, threats to shop elsewhere, pretty-please, offers to purchase one, and personal letters. They just won't do it. I finally had to swipe an old one from a place I worked. Other than their abject refusal to give up a paper catalog, I like them for all kinds of high-quality shop stuff.

I use Amazon for reviews ( just turn your B.S. filter to "high") and usually free shipping.

+1 for Newegg.
It's the only place I get computer hardware, and software for that matter.

Newegg's return policy ***** ***. They sent me two DOA hard drives, and I had to pay return shipping. One of the replacements died within 30 minutes, again, had to pay return shipping. Amazon: Two clicks, print shipping label, UPS/Fedex guy picks my package, and a new unit shows up NEXT DAY AIR.

Amazon, all the way.

i'm in florida, needed stainless fasteners for boat, i'm shocked how fast they get it here from cali www.fastener-express.com

and while no online click type ordering, for any hoses, etc this is my favorite, great folks at the counter too they have catalog and phone ordering. if anything runs through it they have it or can make it.

I have used McMaster-Carr many times, but their shipping costs make it hard to use them for small orders. As mentioned earlier, they will not provide a physical catalog to small customers like me. Every order I have ever placed with them showed up amazingly fast.

MSC is a little pricey overall, but has a wide variety of machine tooling, cutting and abraisive tools and such, and frequent sales/coupon codes save a lot in shipping. They will send a MASSIVE catalog to just about anyone.

Grainger is my go-to for urgent needs, because I can run to the local branch on my lunch hour. You can pick up a HUGE printed catalog at any branch for free.

I have a large bookmarks index of specialty hardware and fabrication sources I have used for odd items and small lots. Places like JWWinco, Bung King, etc.

Surplus Center is my first place to check for hydraulics, electric motors or actuators, pulleys, and many other items. They have limited inventory but excellent prices.

Midwest Control Products is my go-to for ball joints, clevises, linkages, etc. Their volume discounts can't be beat.

I like Columbia River Mandrel Bending for tubing sections, and Race Shop Supply for tubing clamps.

Abraisives & Equipment in Tuscon is the only place I will order blast cabinet parts and accessories from.

For electronic bits, I like these folks:
http://www.mouser.com/

I was able to order minimum quantities of capacitors to fix a dead monitor. Radio Shack doesn't even carry the quality of parts I needed, plus they're way overpriced.

Here you go

http://www.summitracing.com/ - There is a retail location ten minutes from my house. I can look online then run and pick it up.

McMaster Carr is sweet

http://www.rockler.com For my woodworking needs, even though this site often turns to eye candy and wishing.

Can't forget Amazon.com. I have a Prime account and there is a distribution center 45 miles away so the two day shipping often turns out to be next day delivery.
