There a powder on the market which I think is called "sweeping powder". This keeps the dust down for sweeping.
I think the vacuum will still put dust back into the air as well but to a lesser extent.

this. if you can't find it in a box store, check grainger or industrial supply houses. used all the time in factorys...sort of a sticky sawdust quality. but I just use an air line and open the doors to blow everything out, including blowing down machines, shelves, etc...cheaper that way and keeps seldom used junk from getting too dirty...

The product to sweep us referred to as 'Green Dust'. It helps to encapsulate dust.

Assuming the OP was referring to an indoor application.
This will just spread whatever dust it picks up into the air. Without some kind of very fine filter like a HEPA filter, this will not solve the problem.

I'm finished sweeping. It puts all the dust in the air, then settles in another place. Way to much stuff in my building and everything is constantly getting covered in dust.

I'm exploring vacuum options. Something that helps get up all the oil stains and drips would be nice.

What is your favorite vacuum?

A vac will not do anything for oil/stains but I like this one with a HEPA filter..strong suction. and a turn knob that easily selects the hose to use or the floor broom. JMO

I think your opinion is trumped by my experience. I use this inside the shop with no ill effects.

I have a couple of old Kirbys I use on the shop floor most of time leave one set up with hose and the other regular floor set up. Also have a shop wet/dry but mostly use the Kirbys.
