Favourite power tools?

In australia there are a variety of power tools?
Just wondering what you think are the good brands?

So far the most common I have seen,
Metabo, Makita, Millwauke (scuse the typo)
and dewalt which I am fairly sure is stanley black and decker owned!

honestly i do not own a ton of 'power' tools.

frankly i dont own any. sounds funny admitting that. only air, oh and a snap on ct6950 i guess is my only 'power' tool. the shop has enough that if i need to do something at home i have access to a hammer drill/drill/skill saw whatever for the weekend.


but i would have to say, the current shop 'public' drill is a dewalt 18v, and holy hell that thing is put through more **** by a dozen guys in a year than possible. i cant believe it still works a couple years later.


milwaukee is starting to show up a lot in the shop, the 3/8th impact and small drivers for interior work.... so far theyre checking out.. im going to get something at christmas time for myself.

Dewalt 18 volt (both Ni-Cad & Li-ion), Milwaukee M12 series & corded Sawzall, Bosch corded woodworking, Skil circular saws, several Craftsman corded tools, Dremel Multi-max (super useful tool).

imo milwaukee makes the best power tools, metabo is intense but each company has their niche

Depends on the type of tool.... Drills = Fein

My favorite is a 7 1/2 inch Makita worm drive saw.

It is magically balanced and cuts straighter than Skill or Milwaukee (which I also have). As a contractor ALL my tools are deductible tax wise.

If you are self employed all tools are deducible up to 10,000 dollars a year or if they cost more than that within 5 to ten years (a truck is essentially a tool tax wise).

Since most of the work I do involves Laying tile for bathrooms and kitchens I am going to have to go with Felker/Target. My Felker and Target saws cut straight and have been very dependable tools. I also use a Dewalt angle grinder for making making cuts and that has also been amazingly reliable.

I like the festool and fein, but I can't justify the price. Although I was really liking the fein grinders I saw the other day. It had no trigger, just places you squeezed, I think it could be run from two hand positions. Seemed like it would be nice, but maybe it would turn on accidentally. They were still expensive. I own a lot of milwaukee tools V-28 to M12. I am kinda pissed about the new 18 volts. It was really nice having a three bay charger that did both my 28 and 18 volts. I got rid of my dewalt 18v long ago. Maybe they should start giving away toasters with the purchase of a new dewalt tool.

I also have a nice 19.2V Matco cordless drill that I prefer over the others.
