Fayette started learning the hardware trade back in 1867. Two years later he formed a partnership with the hammer maker Jonathan Yerks. After a short time he founded his own company in 1888.

Jumping ahead to 1926 when Plomb applied to make its name a Trademark we see a court battle; this marriage lasted 22 years when Plumb sued for Trademark infringements and Plomb became Proto.

Further jumping ahead Plumb was taken over in 1971 by Ames who in turn sold out to Cooper tools in 1981. Today their tools are made in China, noting that Fayette might be turning in his grave.

Hey, y'all!! You folks have taught me a lot already about the difference between the PLUMB and PLOMB brand, and I wanted to post a photo of this neat little hammer my dad found. I think it's a shoemakers hammer? Anyway, my first Fayette Plumb find!!
