Wanted to ask those of you that have both FD+ and Knuckle Buster which one you like better in regards to the performance of the open end.

Thanks

I have both and FD+ bites better. Knuckle Savers don't mar up the fastener if that's important To you though.

I don't have FD's but I have Proto's with their anti-slip design. After weighing it all out, for daily use on cars, I find that I use the Proto's much more than my non-ASD wrenches. That said, I have both because I'm often working on motorcycles that have fastners I don't want marred up, so I'm very glad I have both.

And just another word on Proto's ASD; you have to SERIOUSLY be laying into a bolt before they leave a mark, and that's another reason I've become a big fan.

All that said, if I were back to professionally wrenching in cars all day long, I think I'd have a set of WrightGrips in my too box. I think they're perhaps a smidge better than the Snappy, and markedly cheaper.

Real Tool Reviews does a decent comparison on a couple popular brands including Snap On and Wright.

I have both, as well as Matco optitorque I think they're called. All do the same thing realistically, but I personally like the knuckle savers the most.

The Snap-on FD+ work better, but I think of them as specialty wrenches same category as angle or flare nut wrenches that get used once in a while. The Proto ASD or Mac Knuckle Savers are everyday use combination wrenches that work better than a smooth jaw wrench

i rarely used the set of Flank Drive plus that I had.

The whole FD+ marring up bolts thing is way over blown in my opinion. A bolt has to be pretty damn tight for the wrench to leave marks on the head. I used them professionally for over twenty years and never had anyone complain about a marked up bolt. They did make my life a whole lot easier though. On a motorcycle I could see where it would be an issue but not with much else.

I have both sets in metric. I use the MAC knuckle savers for everyday work , they seem to engage fasteners quicker and just feel better to me. If it is really , really stuck and an open end is the only option the Snappys come out. I also prefer the snappy's on alignment work. Each type has its merits, If I could only have one set it would be the MAC knuckle savers.

I have SO FD+, MAC KS (1st. gen.), and now a set of Dewalts that use the same open end design as the MAC/Protos. The only real complaints I hear about the SO's are that they can mar some fasteners and they can feel "grabby" sometimes on fasteners as well. I dont use the SO's on any muscle car or Harley projects for the reason of not wanting to damage any of the stainless or chrome plated fateners. The MAC and Dewalt ones seem to do just fine though. I do notice with the MAC and Dewalts you have a bit of play or slop in the open end. That just seems to be the nature of the beast with that particular design.

If you work with a lot of stainless or plated fasteners and could only buy one set I would get the KS/Proto ASD. Anything else......The SO FD+ would be my choice. Or if you want to save some $$$ go with a set of Wrights. JMO
