I did this refurb back in 2015, but a recent post got me thinking I should put up some pics.

I bought a used Featherlight 7x16 dual axle for about $3500 I was close to buying a new steel trailer for about the same price, but I hated the idea of steel trailers around here. They seem to get rusted out in no time, and it seems there is not much you can do to save them.

This guy was well used as a construction trailer, but I was very impressed how well made it is. Anything worn out was fixable. I wanted barn doors on the back so I could load things with a forklift (no regrets after 3 years). I have a set of ramp I set on the back when I need them.

I pulled out the walls install flush mounted e-track and figured I would throw some insulation in at the same time since I had it open. The floor had seen better days, and I wanted to replace it but it quickly became evident that was going to be a huge PIA. So I went over the top with 1/2" ply and made the floor e-track flush as well. Painted everything. Wow it's amazing what some paint will do to brighter things up. Added LED lights all the way around the inside too. Replaced all the seals and I've got great trailer that will last me many more years.

Only regrets was not doing a 3rd row of e-track on the walls. I still want to install a window or two, add a roof vent and insulate the ceiling. Love this trailer.

Nice work. Also look into Mobile Coat for your shiny roof - cuts heat gain a bunch. Cut in your roof vent(s) first.

Very nice. Looks great! What material did you use for the walls? And what did you use to coat the floor?

Thanks for posting this.

Just OSB on the walls. It's what was there originally. I just removed it, cut it to allow for the e-track, painted it and put it back up. I think I just used an exterior latex for the floor - nothing special.

Great Job! I did mine almost exactly the same way. Lowes has the same foam you used in 1 inch with a white backing. I used that on the ceiling and the difference in the inside temp in the summer way TREMENDOUS!

Nice! How did you attach the foam to the ceiling? Glue?

Very nice, and a great price for a Featherlight. My last enclosed trailer I ordered with what they called "salem" vents. There was one on each side near the rear. Could open them in either direction. I preferred those to the roof vent just for the fact I would not have to remember to close the roof vent..

Nice job!!!

Featherlite will holds it's value over the years. Heck for the price you paid in 10 years you will still make money on it.

If you run it in the winter make sure you pull it through a rain storm in the spring to rinse as much salt off of it as you can. The salt attracts moisture during the humid months and the reaction between where the Steel Alex Deck, Hitch Coupler, Hinges and all other steel items can cause the aluminum to corrode.

I have owned several Featherlites, 1990, 1998, 2001, 2004 and a 2006 Transporter and sold them for more than I paid...well except the 2004. I still have it. Still looks like the day I bought it. Had several offers on it but I need it every once and a while.

If you get a chance, the Featherlite Plant is about 150 miles south of St Paul-Minneapolis in Cresco Iowa. Take a tour. They build some amazing trailers there.

Yes. I didn't over do it but used spray contact glue. It been up for a couple of years and is still sticking like the day I did it. If I could only do one thing, it would the the ceiling. I can't tell you how much difference it made. Its literally night and day! I would post a picture if I knew how. Not only temp difference it was amazing how much it brightened it up and how "clean" it looks.
