This looks like a decent hand held scanner that does many things that other scanner can not. Who has this model and what do you think ?

The one thing that bother's me is that the code data base has not been updated since 2014.

I am wondering how much this has to do with Bosch buying them. Bosch also own OTC now. Both Bosch and OTC relabel and sell the CP9580. I think Mac sold it at one time also.

My question would be... for how much? The CP9680 is on Amazon for almost $200.

For that price... buy an Autel. I got an MD802 a few years ago for like $300, looks like they're closer to $200 for a legit one now. It comes with a free year of updates, and AFAIK if you don't need to update right away you could not register until you needed to update it, and have a year from then... It's not perfect and couldn't be your only scanner in a real shop, but it'll do pretty much any one-way task, and a few bidirectional tasks like oil resets and EPBs.

You can buy them new, on eBay, for $125-$150.

Mehhhh... I'd pick one up for <$100 if I just wanted something basic, but I generally subscribe to buy once, cry once, and that's too close for my tastes to buying me a far more capable unit... YMMV.

Honestly I've never used that particular line of them, but I've had a few Actron and Innova code readers (of the $100ish variety a parts store would stock) and I've never been impressed by their usefulness. Their cheapies are fine to keep in a car for just-in-case, but IMO trying to buy one of the higher-end ones to 'do it all' is a poor value.

The MD802 has lifetime free updates now. Only the PRO Autel scanners have a pay to update scheme. They do a lot of updates for the scanners based on what users on the Autel Forums complain about or ask for or report to them.

Do you know what is the latest model year the software has been updated to support not only for powertrain, but for SRS and ABS ?

Very late to this discussion. The Actron website actually only shows theirs to be updated through 2013, not the 2014 in your original post. An email response from them didn't indicate a big priority to do updates. I wonder if they even update the software, or just introduce a new model every 3 or 4 years.

The Autel site lists the capabilities and model years in their support pages. The MD802 seems to be up through 2014 and a few vehicles are showing up for 2015.

If for limited homeowner use, you can now buy a DIY Version of the MD802 called the DIAGLINK. You get one vehicle brand database for free and can add as many more as you wish for $10 each. Perfect for someone like me that shouldn't need more than 2 -3 brands. If a friends wants help, I'll let them pay the $10 upgrade.

The DIAGLINK sells for $109, but one Amazon seller has occasional 5 hour lightning deals at $87. There's supposed to be one tonight, 6/21/17.

These models claim to do OBDII, ABS, SRS, ******, and "all" electrical modules. Like stated above, they have serious limitations compared to professional units. At these prices, I consider them somewhat "quick and dirty" throwaway units. In 5 years everything will change anyway.

Take a look at the Foxwell NT510. $155.00 at their online store. You get full bi-directional with programming for one brand for that price. It can hold up to 5 brands. Does auto bleed, key programming, TPMS, etc. Each additional brand you can purchase online for about $60 to $70 and get a year of free updates. It does straight OBDII for all brands too. I have it and the MD802 and like the Foxwell better. Great for the home mechanic.

I got one on a flash sale for $81 last week. I was pretty set on the Actron until that sale.
