Feedback on Lincoln Electric Pro-Mig 140

Hello All,

I'm looking to buy a Lincoln Electric Pro-Mig 140. I'm a hobbyist weekend warrior who needs a good all around welder for my projects, mostly small stuff.

I'm hoping to get some feedback from those who own and/or use one.

I've got the 135(110V), I've been very happy with it, the down side is the only way to weld thicker metal(+1/4") is with flux core wire, very messy.

I will eventually buy a larger Miller, until then the 135 seems to handle most of what I need to do just fine.

I have the 135 also and use the hell out of it. Never had a lick of trouble.

I believe I have the 180.

Buy from a welding supply store vs big box store.

The machines sold at welders supply stores don't have "tapped" voltage knobs.

Gotta love that lincoln arc quality!

I would recommend a 220 volt machine or the 110/220 multi volt. More money, but a lot more machine. Buy it once ,you'll be happier.

I would go for the 180 for the few bucks more. Also west is right, the models sold at welding supply stores are much better made for only a few bucks different. The whole wire feed assembly in the unit is made of metal vs plastic

I agree with ^. I run a construction service company. We have sp125's 135's and 140's. the 140's are the best but, no where near a 220/ dual voltage machine. Definitely get it from a welding supply shop. They are different machines. Look at Miller if you have the $. Best welder a I have ever owned.

i've had one for approx 4 years without any problems.
bought mine @ lowes on clearance
only have access to 110v in my garage, i like the ability to "take it anywhere", even running it off a generator when needed.
i mainly run lincoln .035 flux core wire. built several cages, bumpers, rock sliders, spare tire mounts, and did the SAS on my s-10 blazer with it.
i switch to .025 solid wire and mix gas if i'm doing a lot of sheetmetal work.

if i had 220 in the garage, i'd go with a 180 size machine

i prefer the hobart 140, made in the usa. Miller is the best, but the equivalent runs about 750 bucks. A good one will have the power on a dial rather than a switch with 4 different settings. My hobart is a switch and works fine for me though.

I have the Lincoln Pro-Mig 140, equipped with regulator and tank, on an HF cart.
I have used the heck out of it, and on mild steel up to 1/4", it works very well.
I have built many projects with it, from a snow-plow frame (see pics below) to my workbench frame (see workbench build thread linked below in my sig).
I bought mine because at the time I purchased it, I lived in a house where I could not get 240v in the garage.
I have been pleasantly surprised at the capabilities of this welder, and have had only a couple of heavier welding requirements that were beyond the capabilities of it.
I do someday want to get a 200+ amp machine, but this little 120v welder has done a lot and has more than met my expectations of it.

Beside the old tombstone, I do not like Lincolns at all. I have a older 175 and a 255 at work. I do not care for them at all. Both machines I have hard times making good looking welds. I don't seem to have any issues with strength and penatration, but they can be ugly. Both have been serviced by the dealer and am told they are fine. My buddy has a miller 180 and it is just such a nicer unit with better welds.
