My garage is used for many things including parking cars, woodworking/construction and I was wondering how well a racedeck floor holds up and cleans up? Particularly the dust that is generated and created in a garage along with oil and other automotive products that may be spilt on a floor

I bought racedeck flooring for my father. It looks great and cleans up easy. He did have a small oil/gas stain that sat all winter. Ruined a few of the tiles. I'm sure it would have been fine if he had cleaned it up in a reasonable amount of time.

I have had RD for over 4 years... for wood working and basic repair (no engine rebuilds or welding), it holds up well.
Staining will come off - as long as you get to it while it is still wet.
But remember there are gaps (about a 1mm) between tiles, so liquid will get thru.
So if you are worried about that, go to LOWES and get some poly sheets, the ones used for painting and lay that down, before the tile.
It will prevent liquids from getting into the concrete.
If you get a light color (white for example), expect it to get dirty and hard to get it back to the original white color.,, mine is dull.
It is plastic and items can get embedded into the surface.

Is it better than paint on? Yes and no.
Yes - because if you did melt a tile, you can replace... with paint, you will see the repainted area.
No - because its more expensive than DYI painting.

Is it better than epoxy? Yes and no
Yes -- it is cheaper and easy to replace and the color combinations. Plus the pretreatment of the concrete to accept epoxy.
No - not as durable and epoxy will not allow liquids to soak into the concrete.

What would I do different.... maybe have one bay of the garage decked... while the other portion epoxied or just stained.

With staining, it is cheaper than epoxy and maybe cheaper than RD (if you use one color).
It would resist absorption of liquids and you can weld.
The bad, you had to fix, you would see the repair patch.

My RD garage.

I have the free flow tile and dust and dirt vacuum up easily. Oil not as easy but I just lift those tiles and clean. I also have epoxy on the floor so it cleans up easily.

I have learned that small parts like washers and nuts and bolt can fall in between the vents. Thankfully I have a good magnet.
I like the tile but if I was going to be working on small parts I would either get the solid tile or have a drop cloth below the area I'm working.

I have a different make of plastic tile and it is NEVER clean. fine dust will not sweep up at all- I have to mop.

I would not do it again.

Sorry to hear this - It is a bit of a problem in our industry with many companies popping up, coming & going with cheaply made garage tiles ( inferior designs and/or materials and/or mfg process'es and/or customer service), it puts a black eye on the industry as a whole :wtf: ...Just like the cheap garage paints Vs. Top notch professional coatings all get lumped into one.

The problem I am guessing you are having is the materials you flooring is made out of has fillers in it to save on costs and try to make flat, one of the problems is the cleaning issue you are having.

I really don't think that is the problem- the tile is made in USA and appears to be high quality material. I think the problem is that the surface has a pretty rough texture. While the wet traction is superb, the dust gets into the surface texture and just does not sweep up.

It was beautiful- for about a day. Now it is perpetually dirty and looks no better than bare concrete.

My Racedeck floor cleans up nicely. Sometimes I have to do a quick scrub with water to clean up something, but nothing like what Stanley is talking about. Nothing really sticks to it.

i did my garage with garagedeck plastic tiles. similar in concept (plastic floor tile with some sort of traction-like thing, in my case it's raised circles), made by the same folks, more affordable. it is really awesome. cleans up easy (with shop vac if i'm feeling really picky, or just a broom and a dustpan, or even a leaf blower (my preferred method of cleaning out the garage as a whole, since i often get sawdust everywhere).

i wish i'd done this a long time ago. it's a pleasure walking in my garage now and seeing the floor. and i've gotten used to the clop-clop-clopping sound.
