I think I would be pretty frustrated if I ever found myself needing a 1" drive ratchet. :headscrat

It is better to have, and need not, than to need, and to have not. :)

Man, I haven't used THAT quote in decades...

What do you use when the compressor is down? Or, if you can't get a truck with air within a hundred yards of the job?

A torch usually.

Or, if you can't get a truck with air within a hundred yards of the job?
WoD
A tow truck. (or see above)

If it requires 1" drive, it likely requires much more torque than I want to apply to a 30" bar. Also likely has space constraints against cheaters.

Before, I was using 1" IR-TI typically on bolts torqued to several thousand pounds. The gun would run them down to save time with the hydraulic wrench and prevent the need for a backup wrench. Never had the power to loosen though. Burn the bolts off.

Now that I am back into the truck world, the 1" or #5 spline guns get used constantly, but pretty much only for lugs. Not a job I would want to do with a ratchet. If I did have to use a ratchet, I would be highly frustrated as mentioned above.

__________________________________________

As the drive size goes up, the usefulness of a ratcheting mechanism greatly decreases. Maybe a point of diminishing returns. I rarely ever find myself using any ratchet over 1/2" drive (excluding hub nuts), simply because required torque is often so great. Larger ratchets had more use before, when socket size range was less.

I didn't know that these had gotten to the point where there were man portable. I saw a truck mounted one years back. I just did a few searches and see that now you can get a unit that you can carry that's good for 6500ft.lbs.

Technology advances!

Yeah, that sure beats the hell out of a ratchet.

I'll bet that, in Peru, there are not so many big tow trucks and portable equipment resources available. I've never been there, but that is the way things are in most of Latin America, by my experience.

Nice tools, Mofo62! Welcome.

Wowza a 3/4 impact socket for a ~13mm bolt?
wouldnt that just shear the head off? or do the 1/2 bolts just pull them selves outta there from the intimidation of that monster socket?

That Armstrong ratchet reminds me a lot of the old Plomb ratchets.

I had completely forgotten about Swinborne! Whatever happened to them? Good tools.

Oh, and welcome! Keep up with the pictures!
