Anyone want to tell me why a 5" grinder is needed over a 4 1/2". I have a made in germany RIDGID metabo clone 4 1/2 that has served well.

I found a video on Youtube with the quickIN, and it looks like a standard disc to me.

It's a clearance sale, regular price is still 250+. If you look on the Fein US site, these are discontinued models.

Looks to be a standard disc but a totally different approach. Seems to use a knurled nob and bolt combo that threads into the gear housing.

I chose NOT to go that route, I personally like the traditional method of just hand tightening my disc. Seems more complicated then it should be?

Ordered 4 of the 5" non Quicks, smoking deal.

Is that going to be difficult to find discs for? On the plus side, I read good things about the Tip Start on the Non-Quick 5".

Ordered two 5" quicks.
I have no need for a grinder with a metric arbor, but I guess I could use a grinder which runs just discs.

Yeah so apparently you can use discs just fine on the quickIN, wire wheels and sanding pads you'll have to find specific stuff for.

I think I'll stick with the quickIN, I keep losing my tool on the Makita at the worst of times which kills my productivity.

I bought the 5 for my friend. QuickIN. Talked to fein and rep said the 4 1/2 and 5 can use 11 5/8 spindle stuff. We'll see.

Same place you can find 4.5" discs. :)

They're not that rare, but I was going to use 4.5" discs on them anyways until I ran out.

I just called and talked to Fein, the guy told me the WSG 14-125 has a 5/8-11 arbor. NOT a M14...i think CPO has it messed up on their website. They also state it as tip start, and its not, its a switch according to the model number.

Thanks for posting this, this is exactly what I need. No need for special "safety" starting and "quick" blade changes for me. Easy to find all kinds of wheels with the 5/8-11 arbor.

Man...I really have a love/hate relationship with this site. Great deals passed along, but like many of you I sure buy a lot of tools I really don't NEED. HA!

Two 5" Fein non QuickIN grinders are on the way...following the Fein Multimaster I bought earlier this morning. Fein is great stuff!

So do the QuickIN models begin with WSS, and the non-QuickIN begin with WSG?

Tip start will have a T at the end of the model number according to Fein rep.

I didn't specifically ask him about WSS vs WSG, just asked regarding the M14 arbor, once he told me, its not M14, its 5/8, i inquired about the tip start since CPO is also stating its a tip start on their website.

He did say, the QuickIN will work with all standard cutoff/flap discs, just won't work on discs with a 5/8 thread.

Saw your PM, but figured the response might be helpful to others too, so I'm writing back here.

RPM of this 5" grinder is the same as the 4 1/2" grinder, guard is 1/4" bigger, but the 5" is 1200W instead of 800W.
I already have a 4 1/2" grinder, and a low speed buffer. Figured why not go for more power while I'm at it.

5" discs are pretty uncommon. I have a 5" diamond wheel in my Bosch tuck pointer, but otherwise, I just plan on using 4 1/2" discs. They fit just fine.

Saw the post about the models in question having 5/8-11 arbors only after I ordered the quick-in version since I did not want M14.
Maybe CPO site does have it wrong. Makes sense to me, as 5/8-11 is what I would expect.
Anyway, I already own a tip start 5" Fein with 5/8-11, so adding a quick-in to my collection will be useful (I wouldn't own it as a first grinder, as it won't work with a brush, among other hubbed accessories).

Not sure who buys these at full price, but $250 for an electric motor with an on-off switch is pretty bananas. I'm not sure there's a simpler power tool that's marked up as heavily, angle grinders are super simple and need very little precision (as opposed to a saw that's expected to hold decent tolerances).

Grabbed the last 4 1/2" at CPO and got 5 of the normal 5" ones. I hate changing wheels so I'll just have them all set up different.

There may not be anything special about an angle grinder but the cheap ones just don't hold up to abuse. Used a tool shop one twice and the switch broke. One of the other cheapies the switch broke (the opposite way though so it's always 'on'). Burned up a trigger craftsman and a craftsman professional (with very little use on it, 3 days after the warranty expired) cutting off the same axle (to their defense I was running 5 or 6" cutoff wheels on them. Was going to order a couple metabo's, but for the same price (around 250 total) I got six of these.

The Fein has a slow start electronic controller, with an electronic overload sensor that locks out the motor in the event of a wheel bind (an electronic version of a safety clutch). You get what you pay for. And I'm not paying a whole lot for what I just ordered. ;)

Damn this site is expensive.

There are, of course, a million ways to make it expensive. Soft start, overload protection, a hundred different safety devices, LED readout of spindle speed/amps, they could make it variable speed and put an optical/hall effect sensor on it too and vary the power to make it constant RPM to have the ULTIMATE ANGLE GRINDER.

Who's buying it though? Not me (at least not at prices that would fund future ridiculous R&D that the Germans are putting into these).
