How does this compare to the Dremel version of these multi tools?
Better. By a wide margin.

Think of it this way; Bosch used to have a 2.5A that they have replaced with a 3.0A version. Both were high end units and both were worth the high asking price. They have a cheaper one now, but instead of giving it the Skil name like most of their lower end tools, they put the Dremel name on it to prop up the brand. If you are considering the Dremel, get the HF/Menards one. If you are considering something nicer, get the Fein or Bosch. There is really no middle ground with these.

I have both the Dremel and Fein Multimaster 250q. The Fein is like a perfectly crafted german sports car. The Dremel is not bad, but think of it as a Honda with a weak engine. Both will get you to the store but if you are driving cross country... the german sports car is the way to go.

Hope that helped...

I use both based on task. If i'm trimming finish molding on a doorway, Fein. If i'm trimming a wedge behind a cabinet, Dremel.

The Fein has more than enough power than you will probably ever need. Lean on the Dremel... it will huff and puff until you slow down.
