Replacing a kitchen sink. Got a 1 1/2" Fenco flexible coupling to join the old copper drain pipe to some new PVC.

It says to torque to 60 in. lbs.

All I have is a little hand socket driver.

In general, is 60" lbs. snug, tight, very tight, cranked to the max? :)

I've used a number of those. Are you using a shielded or non shield coupling? I would recommend a shielded. I just use a nut driver and snug it up, don't kill it. Think of it this way, 60in lbs is 10lbs on the end of a 6".

One thing, slightly deburr or chamfer the outside edge of each pipe to make them slide into the coupling easier without tearing. Those have saved me a number of times in a old house with copper pipes.

LOL, you should have seen me this afternoon! Started off with cutting the old copper drain pipe about 6" off the cabinet bottom, looked like ****. Tried again an inch lower, still looked like ****. One more time (can't go much lower), called it "good enough" and filed/deburred like a madman because of what you're saying: afraid of tearing the rubber.
