So? A Ferrari 365 Daytona can be a million dollar car. Collectors pay big money for original pieces.

VW bug tool kits bring good money too, relative to the cars value.

Plenty of Rolls Royce tools out there, not even that expensive, because they were for use with their aero engines.

Original car tool kits for expensive cars are expensive, sometimes even for not so expensive cars, look at what the VW and Porsche types will pay for era correct Hazet tools for their classics.

haven't you guys ever watched Wayne Carini in Chasing Classic cars? In more than a few episodes he spent as much time looking at the leather tool rolls in the trunks as he did checking out the car

To buy one of those tool rolls off of Ebay, you'd have know everything there was to know about those tools.

Plenty of tool kits have sold on Bring a Trailer for amounts that would make your eyes water.

One customer of the second seller, paid $2000 for a spacesaver spare tire.

Maybe one has to own a Ferrari, before they can truely understand why owners pay what they do.

My guess is because they can. :headscrat

Automotive restorers who do things properly and period correct will pay it. I’ve seen people have bolts custom made so that they would be exactly as they were from the period of the car.

The simple fact is that collectors appreciate originality and completeness.

When these cars go for sale, the people who buy them are looking for the best kept examples. It's no different when you buy a car at home. If you see a car which has no documents, is missing the spare wheel and jack etc, you'd negotiate off the price. How much more would you pay for that stuff to be present? Let's say 5% - i.e. the car you buy for home use is $10,000 (all complete) vs $9600 (incomplete).

Except when you look at the cost of even the cheapest 330's ($250,000) that 5% becomes $12,500. So for the cost of buying the $8000 tool kit and sticking it in the trunk, you've made almost $5k profit.

If you look at the best example 330's ($500,000) then your $8000 investment in the tool kit returns $25,000.

All this talk about vintage tools reminded me of this, a McLaren F1 sportscar from the early 1990's uses a vintage laptop to access its electronic system. A Compaq LTE 5280 laptop.

"The reason we need those specific Compaq laptops is that they run a bespoke CA (Conditional Access) card which is installed into them," explains a McLaren spokesman. "The CA card is an interface between the laptop software (which is DOS-based) and the car." The CA card was used as custom hardware as part of an integrated system for security and copy protection.

There are 330s, then there are real 330s. I always thought the 330GTCs were pretty cool, but they are descended from the 275 rather then the GTE. I wouldn't turn down one of the GTE based cars if you gave it to me, but they aren't in the same league. And that's not even getting into the racing 330s.
