Scotty,

I have a larger 3 car garage and I am planning on coating it.

I have done one car garage before and understand the labor involved.
Since I have a larger garage, I don't want to use more energy than needed.
I plan on buying HD System Coating with 100% solids.

On fairly good floor, If I etch or grind the floor, how important is a primer?

Whats the importance of flakes?
Seems like if I skip flakes, I can save time and the chance of looking uneven.

I can also skip a clear coat....or can I?

Thanks

Dan

other people are welcome to chime in.

I really don't see a need for clear coat, unless you want that shiny shine.

I will never discount the power of a primer.
The clear-coat (urethane) is not mandatory but it will seal the flakes and dramatically increase chemical/abrasion resistance. Frankly, the shine is usually not the reason folks choose the clear-coat.

Just a comment on clear coats. Without the clear coat (and even with it if the coating is real thin) I notice that dragging heavy items across the floor can create colored "skid marks" from smearing the color chips. And get a second job for awhile and buy the primer. You won't be sorry.

My last job was a cheap Rustoleum and it looked good without the clear coat.

My spills never caused an issue with staining. The only problem is if I had dropped a tool, it could caused chipping in the paint.

I also used the friction inhibitor....I probably wont do that again. It made it hard to clean up spills.
