Fiber mesh on surface of my patio.

Not much success on Google, so I got a quick Q. I recently poured two slabs for a patio in my back yard. The first was 6yards ordered from company A. It sucked, but we poured it on a week night at 5pm and hot as hell. The second pour was 5yards from company B at 7am Saturday morning (because company A didn't deliver on Saturdays). Both had Fiber in them. The first patio had almost no fibers on the surface after finished, the second is covered with fibers on the surface. What happened here? And my next question is how can I get the fibers off the surface? So far I've tried pressure washing and a pumice stone with negligible results. I was going to attempt fire with a rose bud next, but typically fiberglass doesn't burn well. Ideas? I realize it will eventually wear off, but I'm having a big party tomorrow and it's a patio for a pool, so there will be people running around barefoot.....:eyecrazy:

Different amounts of fiber used in pours.
Take a weed eater torch and go over the fiber, don't get too close to the concrete

Big *** torch that hooks to your gas grill propane tank. Think plumbing torch On steroids. HF sells them for about 50 bucks. If I recall

I didn't think the fiber was actually "fiberglass" but polypropylene fibers. Not sure where I heard or read that. If you have a propane torch try it on a small area and see what happens.

A rose bud would probably do it as well! Just don't get too close! I didn't know that concrete pops when you heat it with a torch. I was heating a car part to a dull red while it was sitting on the concrete floor and a piece of concrete popped off and flew a few inches.

Yes, concrete will spall with heat. I've been on many car fires where pieces of the road exploded under my feet while fighting the fire.

Nobody is going to get fiberglass splinters in their feet BTW. As was said, it's not fiberglass.

Like a rose bud? I've got one of those.

A rosebud uses oxy/acetylene. You want a big flame like a rosebud, but not as hot (no oxygen).

The idea with using a torch is that thin fibers will burn up rapidly, while surfaces will be undamaged if you move quickly enough. Just like you can pass your finger through a propane torch flame quickly without harm, though your hairs may be singed.

To help educate folks....there are different types of fibers to ask for when you order up ready mix.....if you ask for fibers now a days, be sure to ask for micro fibers....these are so small they are almost unnoticeable. Probably what batch A had....the longer more noticeable fibers are very visible and when finishing a slab will be very noticeable...many years ago there was only the longer version available and like everything else with ready mix unless you specify exactly how you want a mix you most likely won't get exactly what you thought you were going to get...ask the dispatcher when you place the order, they are there to help!

Yes! Mix A did have the micro fibers. They looked like little ***** white hairs. Mix B had what I consider the old traditional coarse thick fibers. At the time, I had no idea there was different options. I just asked them to add fiber.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will be hitting it with my propane torch in the morning. Now that you guys corrected me on the torch types, I recall seeing a true rose bud in use before. It makes a noticeable growl and more focused flame.
