Finally started the shop but have some questions. Tech support has warned me of potential issues with fibre mesh and epoxy. Has anyone had problems with "fibers" standing up and having to sand between coats?

I am planning a 2 room 3 bay garage (28 x 44) and want the floor to be easy to clean and durable for a shop. Lift and jacks are planned to be prominent. As most have said money is an issue but want do it right the first and hopefully the only time.

Thanks

If you have fibers in your concrete, you will need to torch/burn them after you profile (acid etch or diamond grind) the concrete. This will insure no fibers will be sticking up through the epoxy.

Thanks Rugerlady,

How much heat is necessary to burn off the fibers after profling? Is there any special/prefered equipment?

You know, I think you can sand or screen the floor to clear it of fibers before coating. Renting a rotary buffer with a pad and screen is not very expensive. If you are going the heat route, a roof torch passed over the surface will burn off the fibers quickly. That's a lot of heat and it shouldn't take much time.

You will be able to feel the surface smooth when it's ready. I'm not usurping rugerlady's obvious experience, but I have seen concrete finishers use the sanding method.

Must work for someone.

Sand screening works fine as does the torch method. If you use a micro fiber mesh, it doesn't normally need attention after finish. gene ec-Indy

Thanks for the replies. I will most likely do both after all the overhead (walls, ceiling, etc.) work is finished. Probably torch it, then screen it.
