Interesting but confusing. Hurray Google! Ubiquity has some nice stuff for so so speeds over greater distance.

Would a couple of lightning rods at your property boundaries help or hurt the lightning problem? A tilt up 40 ft tower welded up from chain link rail and #4 rebar is cheap and easy to weld. Angle and flat bar is a little tougher and more expensive.

I just wanted to drink coffee on the porch and read GJ so my needs are simpler.

Fiber at home. Wow. I can't wait for the thread about the thoria based home nuclear reactor for grid intertied use.

So it's higher end technology than most are used to. So what? Being able to repurpose goods purchased cheaply to accomplish a goal is not desirable?

Fiber at home, fiber to the home, heck, my 2008 car has a fiber optic audio system. my playstation 2 had fiber to my TV.

just because you're uninformed about a technology doesn't make it expensive or novel.
