hardly anyone polishes fiber these days. plenty of better options including unicam connectors and splicing factory ends with tails onto the fiberI used to do field service and found for non life critical situations (we had some instructor stations networked with fiber on simulators) i could get away with carefully using a razor blade to make a cleanish end cut and routing the fiber into the connector. We eventually got the right tools to skin the fiber and polish the end. Noticed your local cable provider is pushing fiber - maybe a local tech can do a side gig. If you google "pre terminated fiber" you may be able to mail order a complete run - unsure how much acces or distance is involved.
