It is a matter of return on investment. Further, you have to define return.
In my 1921 ballon frame farm house, 2# foam was the only practical way to get a R-20 wall in a 2x4 frame. In the shop it took blown fiberglass, much less costly, to get the same. The attic got 18" of cellulose since it does a better job with sound.
Each application requires a different spec depending on the climate, the operating conditions and the budget.
No one insulation fits every application.
I have been in the trades for some time and people pay me to do my best work. There re many good mechanics here, but few have the trade skills to do the better than I. Sloppy doesn't happen.
Now if you don't pay for good work, you are not likely to get it...
