Ok so I have a 24x24 pole barn garage that has 2in pink to insulate the walls. The garage don't hold heat so well as in I have a propane furnace out of a trailer house. I have the thermostat set at 55 and it stays running to keep the garage warm and Im going through 20lb tank in 91/2 hrs ouch. I'm looking to re-insulate with R19 fiberglass and what Im wondering is

1. Should I pull all the pink down and put up a vapor sheet then the R19?

2. Just leave the pink and run 2x2 runners over it at how ever wide the R19 is this way I have something to staple the R19 to and have something to screw the hard board to?

you can leave the pink foam boards, but as stated will need to shim for the R19 so it is not compressed.

vapor barrier always goes on the warm side (so on top of whatever you do).

This would be my op #2. I was not so sure if this would be ok or not.

What's insulating the ceiling or the roof?

Some kind of rolled stuff above the hard board .

I too have a 24x24. Instead of pink stuff I went with mineral wool. Roxoul brand. Special order through my local lowes ' free shipping, took about 4 days to arrive. Down side is its about 1.4 time more cost than pink. But on the plus side.... no itch, friction fit, can shape how you want it with a bread knife, excellent sound reduction, same R factor as pink, no sag. Biggest thing for me, here in georgia was that it will not absorb or hold water and will not support mold growth. Can't say enough good things about this stuff. This was the first time I ever installed insulation and by the end of the first "bail", I felt
Like an expert, just that easy to work with.
