I've been meaning to mill some slots in a piece of angle aluminum, ever since I saw somebody here on GJ do it...finally got a moment to do it...it really is nice, cleans up the file drawer amazingly.

Here's the "other" file drawer...I guess it'll stay unorganized, for now. At least the files are wrapped so they can't abrade each other.

Very nice but you need to clean your files off before you putting them away. They're developing white rust. :wtf:

Tee hee, I was wondering who'd point that out. It's a vixen file with drywall patch in it! I'll go clean it, Daddio.

That's a great idea. I need to build one of those! Problem is I got 300+ files! I could fill all of my drawers in all my boxes with files! But I have to figure something out. :)

I'm well behind you at 220 or so. But they are sprawled about in a Lista SC box right now. Wheels turning...

Those of you who are thinking of making one, a couple of tips:
1) Use a 1/8 end mill, but for most the slots you'll have to widen the slot an additional .050 (or larger if you have fat files)
2) The tighter you can get the drawer-edge-to-drawer-edge dimension, the more stable it is.

Where the tall corn grows!
I like it... very nice clean look and function. I think i'm going to take some alum. angle stock and make up some Combo holders in the same idea. I'm sick of not getting the compact indexing I want. will probably line the slots w/ some adhesive line felt.

Seriously 300 files? What ever for? You've got handles on all of them?

I picked them up on a CL score a year or two ago. A crate full of files for $15. While I was there I bought about 40# of fasteners for another $10. And a box of random tools for $20. Was my second best CL score to date.
