File Shapes

What are your favorite shapes and cuts? Been thinking about getting mini-files, but also may buy some new standard files. Maybe piece together a set.

"Standard" use files for me are single cut nicholson in 8, 6 inch ("mill *******" NOS usa/etc).

Should probably add that for reference.

Half round and rat tail files get a lot of use in my shop.

This bahco set is like $40ish on amazon, with 5x pieces of 8-inch files.

No triple square but has 4 square and others. The mini file set has triple square and warding files, but is of course smaller files (4 inchers). Both set have handles.

Other options are to piece together sets from NOS as well. But not too much cheaper than Bahco from looks of it.

You can't have too many files.

I agree that you can't have too many files, but really depends on your needs. I do hvac and industrial type mechanical work, and I find 90% of the time I reach for a ******* cut half round 8 inch, or a six inches triangle, despite a whole box full of files in the truck.
