PS I know these are perilously close to damaging each other. I know the right way to store files, I just wanted to see what would fit in this drawer. I guess most of them will come out, because I sure can't dedicate four drawers in that box to files

I think your file collection is "sharp". Some of the small ones are cuter than a "rats tail". You have a good "handle" on what it takes to acquire a well "rounded" collection. You are obviously a "hardened" collector. My voice is getting "raspy" talking about all of them.....

Ohh and nice file collection Alex....I guess some guys collect ratchets, you go for files. Make perfect sense.

there's a pretty broad assortment. from little tiny diamond files and 4",5",6" xf swiss pattern to larger xf files up to about 10", and a few 14" brutes... and everything in between.

Mostly I use the fine cut stuff. I have power tools for fast metal removal, but you can't finesse stuff with a mill 1hp die grinder.

SKROO-ZON makes some nice file handles,True-Value used to have them, i bought
some last year from LEE- VALLEY.
CORN COBS=NO
For needle files an adjustable handle works well,GARRETT WADE ?
Make your own,hackberry,mullberry,walnut,hard maple or other fine grained
hard woods work well.

One thing that I like about this forum is the ratio of good answers and valueable info vs "peanut gallery" replies. Sorry if 'corn cob' came off as peanut gallery. I recenty aquired a batch of old tools, including some files with cob handles. The cobs went straight to the trash.

That's a good idea indeed.

as for a straight answer to where to get file handles, any hardware store will have them. home depot carried the wood ones last time I checked. Lowes carries wood ones, the red ones you see on most of my files, and the black ones you see on a few of my files.

They are very common the fact that you are asking about them tells me that you haven't bothered looking for them at all.

If you have a wooden dowel and a drill you can make a lot of handles for pretty cheap.
