yeah...seems a shame to destroy them. They make such good storage for the garage. I think that is why i see so many for sale on craigs and such. People ditching them to go paperless which does make sense. Good time to snap up some deals if i can find a couple good quality ones.

Definitely a great storage solution for the garage. I love the idea of painting them. Makes them look much better.

Filling cabinets make good garage/ shop storage. I have one in my wood shop that holds sanders and sandpaper in one drawer. Nail guns in another. Works well.

I know from my recent move that you won’t fit many jack stands in a file cabinet drawer. I think I could only fit two in each drawer.

I use a lateral filing cabinet for jack stand storage, it works great. 6 to 8 of car size and 4 for the large truck stands.

I read a couple hundred for sale ads a day, and have for as long as I can remember. I see more filing cabinets and storage cabinets for sale now than ever before. I think we are in the golden era as far as a guy finding metal storage cabinets. There is an auction company warehouse near me that has several hundred units available at all times for sale, but there are other places on CL an hour away in the triangle area with better prices. Some lateral files have drawers. Some have doors that slide back and up into the cabinet, then have an open front drawer exposed for use. I like this type as they can be used as shelves or drawers, and can be hidden by pulling the doors down. This is the type I have in my shop.
