Fillin' the new box... slowly!

Hey guys, thought I'd share a few pics as I move, clean & sort tools from my basement shop to the Snap-on box in my garage I refurbished over Christmas. I have a separate post on refurbing the box. The box seems to get more awesome every day! Huge difference in the ball bearing drawer slides after dismantling, thoroughly cleaning and relubing... a lot of slides to do though, glad that job is behind me!

My tools are a combination of a few things from my Dad, some probably over 40 years old, and what I have collected during my 55 year old lifetime. I'm a home garage mechanic not a pro so it will take me a while to fill the new box.

What's taking the most time is really cleaning averything before it goes into the new box, including taking apart the ratchet mechanisms, cleaning/lubricating those, polishing up what I can... and just sorting through my unorganized mess downstairs.

Bought the flex gearwrenches pictured on this forum. Decided to pack the top large drawer with all metric, since that's the only type of cars I currently work on. I'll probably bring up the SAE stuff later... for that less drawer liner look!

A few more pics... The last one is the basement sorting & cleaning in-process. What a mess!

Thanks!

I have never seriously organized my tools before... I just basically chucked the open ends in one drawer, had sockets on rails but all over the place. It's weird to be putting this together. I'm doing it slowly every now and then because it drive me nuts to sort through all my junk trying to find that one missing thread chaser, or 8 mm socket. But I'm getting there!

Thought I had some metric deep 1/2" drive sockets or maybe impacts, but can't find those yet. If I don't have those, maybe I'll find some Snap-on so have something Snap-on to put in the new box!

Those extra long X flex gearwrenches are really nice. I was wondering how the heads would be, not being the locking type... but they're great, nice and firm and can be tightened further at the hinge like you said. Very happy with them! Thanks! They are "top drawer center", ha ha!

Looks great!

Its a pain initially to reorganize a box....but once its done its easier to maintain. It really pays off in being able to save time grabbing tools and not having to rummage around looking for missing/hiding tools! You will be happy you did it.

I organized when I bought my last box. Amazing how you know where everything is now. Also, It makes me put everything back.

Thanks everyone. I agree with comments about organization. It will be easier to keep my tools clean too... no way I'm putting greasy stuff back in there after all this work!

I've been having fun filling in what tools I don't have. Trying to figure what brand deep metric impact sockets to get... CM or IR?
